China’s very name literally translated means “center of the world”. The Chinese don’t trust outsiders because they were fricked by outsiders throughout human history. But the Japanese and Koreans were far more isolationist than the Chinese.

I took some chinese history courses at LSU. Very interesting. It’s a vast country that’s never been completely taken over by outside forces, and when they do have Power they have tended to be largely insular. Hell,

Civil war.
I mean...we conquered an entire, vast continent almost, in the span of a couple centuries.
Then became a global power in the dawn of modern warfare, where our power stretched across the globe. Mammoth ships, vast fleets of bombers...

We came into our own at the perfect time.

Mongols never completely conquered it to my knowledge. Kublai Khan held court over much of China but wasn’t there still pockets of independence?

Now we rot from the inside. An infection where no one has the stomach for the cure

The Mongols had it all. When the Mongol Empire split in 1294, Kublai Khan had all of traditional China (and much more) except for parts of far Western China. I think the Yuan Dynasty's holdings in China proper were the same as when China was first unified by the Qin Dynasty.
