It wasn't necessarily the day right after 9/11 - but the weeks following, it was up there. Every other car had an American Flag sticker on it. It was then I kind of knew that if we ever got attacked, we'd be good to go. Everybody was willing to fight.

Anytime seeing the sunset or sunrise thru the Spanish moss on Caddo Lake or Bisteneau. Anytime hiking thru a state park in Arkansas or canoe down the Buffalo River. Anytime I have driven thru Red Rocks and Cactus of Arizona. Everytime I see that blue/green water for the first time as you drive down into the Florida Keys. Everytime I have sat in some small town diner eating a burger and slice of pie and listen to the old farts at the counter swapping their tall tales. Everytime I pushed my kids, and now grandkids on a swing at the park. Watching my 8 y/o grandson hit his first home run this past season. Buying my granddaughters cotton candy at the State Fair this past fall. Everytime I have sat in Tiger Stadium listening to 100k people cheer in unison for kids playing a game.
If you don’t wake up every freaking morning, thanking God and the men who gave their lives so that you were fortunate enough to be born in this country, then you truly are a fool. Do we have issues in America, sure. Are there other beautiful places in the world. Absolutely. But nowhere on Earth and nowhere in history have a people had the fortune to have what we have here.

Seeing Lee Greenwood play God Bless the USA on stage with GWHB and Gorbachev at GWHB’s 80th birthday party at Minute Maid stadium was prettt cool.

A few days before Navy deployment in 1987, Got grabbed by a Chief to get "jocked up" in dress whites to be in honor guard for when Ron and Nancy's entourage was going from AF-1 to hangar bay where Stark memorial was(a high classmate was one of the 37 killed).
After Ronnie and Nancy passed us we followed them into the hangar. Seeing all those crying parents, wives, girlfriends, siblings and kids still causes me pause. It was harder to look at 37 caskets.
Nancy chatted with each of us as Ron glad handed the high brass. Nancy was awesome... Told me "there is nothing more handsome than a stout sailor in dress whites"
After Ronnie told our Skippler and Battle Group Admiral "don't let this happen again - keep our boys safe over there!"
I was excited about deployment before, but now I was ready for whatever it would bring. 3 noteworthy incidents......

Somewhat before but hit it me January 1991 . We sake patriotic songs each day during music !
5th grade teacher broke down as her husband had been deployed she had a 6 month old at home !
He came home but it put things in perspective for me from that day on!
