And isn’t there an altitude monitor that would automatically deploy the main or reserve?

Good grief, I’d never jump out of a plane but if I did, opening the chute too late would not happen. I’d open that sucker so fast they’d have to fish me out of the Gulf of Mexico

I think they are required in Canada, but I'm not positive.

A friend of mine died in a skydiving accident outside of Montreal about 10 years ago. This guy had plenty of experience, starting with a British Parachute Regiment. He had about 740 successful jumps, including two that day, before his death.

He had disabled the automatic reserve chute release, presumably to prevent it from fouling his main, but that's speculation. By the time he finally pulled his reserve he was only about 75' above the ground.

It was a sad day for his family and friends.

Tanya Pardazi, a philosophy student at Toronto University failed to release her parachute fast enough

Her last words were, "while the inevitable conclusion to be drawn here is that man is ever a slave to time, this observation has a corollary that is not so nihilistic: the idea that time (in its linear sense at least) cannot exist without man."

Did anybody even click the link? Her main chute failed. She didn’t get the reserve open in time. Fix your title

From website

quote:

Skydive Toronto uses state-of-the-art equipment with two Automatic Activation Devices (AAD) that only a few schools in the world use. If you're in a situation where you cannot activate your main or reserve parachute, the AADs will kick in.

quote:

She had 'released a quickly-rotating main parachute at a low altitude without the time or altitude required for the reserve parachute to inflate,' Skydive Toronto said in a statement.

Explain to me how the title is wrong based on that statement? If she had opened her main parachute earlier she would have had time to open the reserve and allow it to inflate. Clearly she did not have enough time for the reserve to inflate, per the article. I posted the exact quote in the OP.
