Riptides are nothing to frick around with, even for experienced swimmers. Sounds like these guys weren't the strongest of swimmers.

Sunset was at 7:45 in Panama City Beach. Getting in chest deep water at 8 pm when soon you won’t be able to see isn’t what I would do when I got to the beach.
Have some beers at the condo, or in this case smoke some weed, and go to the beach in the morning.

After dark you aren't likely to get spotted by someone who could possibly help. You are on your own. Plus that shark just might like to feed at dusk.

Yeah this happened nearby unfortunately. I don't go in water past my knees often especially if the flags are yellow/red. There's been warnings about the rip tides all week

I've reacted twice already and had no clue as to what the three guys looked like. Why is race such a big issue to you?
You’re either a terrible liar or you have the critical thinking of a rock

Likely couldn’t swim at all or were very weak swimmers.
Didn’t assess the situation. They didn’t bother to educate themselves.
They drowned.
When someone does something stupid and dies, this board cites “Darwin’s Law.” Why not apply that here?
I have property at PCB. I get text messages alerting me to flag conditions. They promote this feature everywhere. This was avoidable.

Gotta be pretty scary shite to get pulled out to sea at night and not know what to do.

Nah, I just didn't read the article before I first posted. Plausible deniability of sorts.

Yep. Alert from yesterday.
ALERTBAY: Single red flags are flying at the beach today. High rip current hazard. Knee deep is too deep.
Posted on 6/22/24 at 6:21 pm to GRTiger
It’s been double red flags for the last week.

You can’t ignore red flags
Sad

What a terrible way to go. At night with ocean taking you into the pure darkness. Sucks

I was in Panama all this past week (could have been me) but Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday was double Red Flags. Saw a lady swim out around 4pm on Wednesday. Life guard had to rescue her and cops were waiting on shore when she got pulled in.

It’s pure panic

Thanks. That's the part that makes it stupid for sure. It wasn't in the original statement, prompting what I thought was my pretty benign question.

I have surfed at midnight, under a full moon. As long as you can see a wave coming, the night is not all that different from the day.
