Everything in this country sucks now. I'm ready for people to just get deported both illegals and citizens.

They definitely do not always have open beds. I've seen, on a regular basis, ambulance patients on a bed waiting in the hall way, as well as treating patients with actual care in the hallway(that requires no beds but good staffing, usually done when the bulk of ER beds are filled with inpatients waiting for beds upstairs)
That happens all the time and this entire post is correct.

Did you go to the closest hospital in an urban location? If you can drive, and they tell you the wait is several hours, just drive out to a nice hospital in the suburbs.

Those are rookie numbers…

You’ll get an EKG and a troponin. If they’re negative, you slide down the list.

A hospital in Longview Tex has billboards in Shreveport encouraging folks to drive the hour+ and have no wait for ER. They have the expected wait time on their site. Currently 2 minutes.

and no end in sight to be called back.
Average ER wait time at the hospital I moonlight in is like 14 hours. I hope you brought a phone charger.

I got a UTI a long time ago, when i was in college.. at that time, i was told that 70% of UTIs in males were actually STDs.. not sure if that percentage has changed over the years though, or really if there is that much of a difference .

Either claim chest pain or can’t walk and you’ll be taken immediately

“Always” a UTI.
It is amazing how many things a fricking bladder infection can mimic in the elderly. So thousands of dollars in tests are done to rule out bad shite. Because getting a confused elderly lady to pee in a cup or not shite in a “hat” is a fricking bane of emergency medicine. Before you say “cath them”, who is the evil bastard who immediately wants to cath an old lady and not give the family a chance.

We ended up being seen 7 hours after initially being brought to the ER.
Despite the long wait, and questionable people who were really "ill," I can honestly say that everyone we encountered at the hospital was fantastic. While I didn't care for the long wait, these workers did (and do) their very best to see and care for everyone, based on what I observed. I can only imagine how difficult that is, especially when many are treating the ER like a doctor's office.
We ended up reaching a resolution around noon. Still a long way to go (away from the hospital), but thanks to all who offered support and comforting words.

Glad you were able to get a resolution and it's so true.
Doctors and nurses work their asses off in the ER.
They need to open more stand alone ERs, IMO for those "emergencies" people have, so true emergencies can be taken to the hospital.

People will ambulance over for a sore throat and runny nose
No ambulance but have an employee who took both of her kids separately on Friday, and one of them back on Monday.
Symptoms - first visit fever, second kids visit throw up, third visit one of them had a cough and complained his side hurt so she took him to make sure he didn’t have fluid on his lungs.
Poor kids live in the ER

There's a solution for that which exists in 32 of 33 industrialized countries. For some reason, people like to be against the solution while simultaneously bitching about hospitals becoming a veritable family medicine office.
Just sayin'.....
Our local hospital's ER also gets backed up..very frustrating. They're great checking you in, getting your vitals quickly and grabbing a summary of why you're there, and then promptly telling you to take a seat for who knows how long. Problem definitely seems to be with staffing/beds behind the lobby door.
