Thoughts on headstones with photographs of the deceased?

We have the technology.

Is there a rule that you have to use a picture from close to when you died?

The etching is cheap. The size, type of stone, and shape is what costs alot.

I love to walk through random cemeteries and look at the old oval pictures on headstones. Makes me wonder about them, what they were like, what their life was like and how they died.

Those are dumb, graveyards and headstones are dumb. Stop focusing on death, remember the good times. If you really think that person is just the pile of dust and bones in the ground, that's depressing. Toss my arse off a cliff for entertainment or use me for science experiments, I don't care what happens to the meat sac when I'm gone. Definitely don't spend 5 figures on a plot and some marble/granite.
