I’d rather live in Denver than Dallas. But not sure if the 20% increase is worth it. It might be but I do not know the difference of cost of living. Nor do I know if Colorado has state income tax. That could turn that 20% into 15% very quickly.

Main thing I would look at is which position has the most long term growth and can you move back to Dallas if you don’t like it in Denver

Dallas is a more dynamic job market and business environment for sure....but Denver has a better quality of life i/m/o being right on the front range. That 20% bump is going to go to housing and cost of living so net/net you are probably staying the same. Socially there seems to be a lot going on in Denver for a late-20 something but Denver seems way slower and far more laid back than Dallas. It's socially a more progressive place but I think a better quality of life.

Yes it is. Trust me.

A typical $300K house here would cost over a million there.

Upper 80's would be fine to live in an apartment.

Well then go for it. But I'd still go higher than a 20% raise. Re-location alone is worth an added 10%, in my opinion.

Denver is a big city, it has normal big city problems. If you like living in Dallas, Denver should be no sweat.

Outside of Denver is great, a lot of places are getting overcrowded, but the mountains are still grand. Obviously a different feel and culture than Dallas, a little bit of American West (what's left) plus a melting pot of people from all over the country who have moved there in the last 15 years for mountains, beer, robust economy and so on.

Wish I would have moved there 6-7 years ago, not a regret so much as just a missed opportunity as the economy, housing market, etc. have just gone crazy out there

What’s the difference in cost of living between Dallas and Denver? It may not really be a raise depend on cost of living.

I’d probably choose Denver over Dallas though

I checked a few sites and it looks like a 10% COL change plus the state income tax.

Someone posted a 34% COL change but i don’t see that honestly.

Golden, yes. Boulder, no way. frick that town. It's only good for a weekend visit to Pearl Street Mall every now and then. You wanna talk about a bunch of liberal nazi wackos?

I do agree it sucks due to their politics. But I said "something like" those places due to access and easier living (large busy metro areas aren't my thing). I've heard Colorado Springs is decent but I haven't made it to that area of the state to check it out.

Do it! 100%.
Most people have to take jobs out of college that move them to a place where they don't have friends/family. You'll make friends, you'll get a gf, you'll live the dream!

You are choosing one of the Top 5 places to live in the country.
Do it without any regrets.

I would move there now if I hadn't gotten strapped down in my mid-20's. Might be too late now, but maybe in 10 years or so, I'll be heading that way as well.
This is the opportunity of a lifetime; don't let it pass you by.

the money is probably going to be a wash

I'd focus on which city would provide you a higher standard of living more

I know it would be Denver for me

yea I'd buy that maybe 7 years ago but the Dallas area has gotten more expensive recently so the difference shouldn't be that dramatic

Are you outdoorsy? A percentage of the younger population there will really look down on you if you aren't. Cross country snow sking doesn't count. Do you climb, mountain bike, triathelon?

Have you compared costs of living? Allowed for Colorado taxes (State income)?

Which part of the city would you be working in? Because of traffic you can't just live anywhere and have a short commute to work.

Can you take a week off and try living there in an extended stay? See if you can stand the dryness and elevation.

Not that different. Denver is still a possibility for my wife and I so we've looked around.

Don't sell yourself short on a raise though. Are you afraid to negotiate higher or something? frick that. You're moving to a different state, and this is a golden opportunity to get a significant bump. More than just a cost of living raise.

Get out the way, I'll do it. I packed my balls this morning.

Spent some time there on my journey west and met some cool people in the short time there. High elevations aren't for me so kept going. Keep that in mind.
