To me, it sets a casual tone or attitude. Sure, the Bible doesn't say to not wear shorts. But it says to be reverent. You are going to worship the Creator of all things. Show some respect in the feeble way you can. I feel like God deserves my best, whether it is an old pair of jeans or a suit and tie.
You respect man enough to not wear shorts to a funeral or job interview. Worshiping God is not the same as going to the beach or a ball game. I'm not dressing the same for those events.

I think the fashion of the 60s is appropriate for mass. People were much more religious back then

I’ve pretty much given up organized religion, but I used to be an every Sunday church guy. Then, when I saw someone wear shorts to church, my initial reaction was that they shouldn’t do that. I realize that was just training that I’d been conditioned to for my whole life. It’s really not a big deal.

Agreed. The people that only go on Easter and Christmas but are dressed nicely are so much more classier

I really couldn't give a shite what someone else wears, and I'm always amazed how much self-proclaimed "macho men" will gossip about what another man wears or drives.
That being said, I do draw the line somewhere... Wearing a wife beater to church for example is pretty trashy.

I try not to judge but I think jeans or shorts for church is tacky as hell. Its called "your Sunday best" for a reason. I don't really care how laid back or lax of a church it is.
