Battle of the Bulge..That was some big balls to be anywhere around that..My Dad passed the week before Katrina thank God. That period of time was troublesome. Loosing my Dad and everything I owned. Things that make you stronger......

Your brother is retarded and shouldn't be allowed to handle his own money.... seriously.... your brother is stupid.

You can have a kickass wedding for 500 people at a very good venue for 30k.
Hmmm. You couldn't 7 years ago. We had a "smaller" wedding with like 175 or so. I dont know the exact number, but it was easily over 30k. Not extravagant either.

Wife: I want a big wedding! We're having 300 people! I've planned this since I was 12.
Ray: You knew 300 people when your were 12?

We had an expensive wedding and rehearsal, but my parents paid for the wedding and his for the rehearsal dinner. We are lucky to have parents that could and wanted to do it. I think it all comes down to what you and your family can afford and are willing to spend. With that being said, I would now have a much smaller wedding. But I am 42 and not 24 anymore so things change.

Thankfully my HOA banned weddings 3 years ago.

My first wedding was in the 7k range, with me paying for everything but the alcohol. Honeymoon was super cheap, because I was 24 and funds were limited. TBH, I wasn't thrilled to spend more money after paying for the wedding.
My second wife it was in the 35-40, and I only paid for traditional groom stuff.(flowers, limos, tuxedo's, etc.) But she was in her mid 20's, from a large family, and her mom wanted a big wedding. Honeymoon was substantially more expensive, but I was mid 30's and much better off financially...even after the divorce.

My wedding was 50k and about a week before the wife said “why didn’t we just go to the courthouse?” Pissed me off

Three most expensive weddings I've been to=all are divorced
Three cheapest I'm guessing=all still together
Woops

We had an expensive wedding.
Wouldn’t have changed it for the world.
And it depends on what you spend the money on. Reception venue is the most important.

Surprised so many people here care about how much people spend on their wedding

My sister got married in the smaller chapel of the main church, my mother made the dress, and the reception was at my parents' house for family and very close friends. The cake was the biggest expense. They probably spent about $2k total.

I had a nice wedding in a big huge NOLA church which was nice. Should’ve saved the money though.

Mine cost $35 (marriage license). Here’s to hoping you’re right.

We spent less than $150 on our wedding.
Paid for the JOP & had an extremely small circle wedding at our house. No food. No drinks. Got a haircut, pressed my suit, she wore a nice dress she already owned & got her hair + nails did. Easy peasy.
Took ourselves on the honeymoon.

I’m an ordained minister with a marriage affidavit on file. If they get me two drinks and an appetizer, they can be married before dinner is over, and it will be great.

Been to a lot of weddings. Two of them stood out as the most fun:
1. Couple married in parents' backyard with a whole smoked hog, good music, a bonfire, and copious amounts of alcohol.
2. Couple rented a cheap country cottage/event thing. BYOB, good music, and fun atmosphere.
