re: Fire in Santa Rosa County, FL?

I know of 20 homes in the Santa Rosa Beach fire in Walton County. They are reporting around 30. The word is burning illegal substances caused the fire. Arrest should be made today.

I live in Destin but have several friends that are sitting in a beach access parking lot watching and hoping their homes aren't burning. It is populated to us. My husband just said the Santa Rosa Beach Club golf course has damage. Obviously, it is all happening and we pray it is not as bad as it looks. Praying for everyone in South Walton.
The one here is big and hitting a very populated area. The pictures are horrific:(

I don't know if someone is setting them. We have had beautiful weather this spring and little rain. We have had a red flag warning today.
It is very bad. Crossed 98 and a lot of south Walton west of 393 is evacuated.
We go to Islamorada every spring break. We love it. The house we rent has a beach. A lot of places don't have beaches as others have mentioned. Cheeca Lodge has a beach. Haven't stayed there in years, but we always enjoyed it.

We were supposed to go to Sunset Key Cottages first week of June. We are rescheduling because of the virus. It is right off of Key West. You have a ferry that runs to Key West all day and night. Since Key West is not my favorite place, it seemed like a good compromise with my kids that wanted something different. I have not stayed there, but a lot of people have recommended it.

Homewood is awesome for younger couples. Mountain Brook or Vestavia once you have kids.
Yet you all want to come here. Praying for all of you but stay home. Trust me our hospitals can't handle it.
He should be focusing on his children that just lost their mother unexpectedly. What an arse.
My sister loves him. I was not a fan, but went with her to his concert. He was fantastic!
We had an expensive wedding and rehearsal, but my parents paid for the wedding and his for the rehearsal dinner. We are lucky to have parents that could and wanted to do it. I think it all comes down to what you and your family can afford and are willing to spend. With that being said, I would now have a much smaller wedding. But I am 42 and not 24 anymore so things change.

We lived in Jones Valley and loved it. We were zoned for Jones Valley Elementary, Huntsville Middle and Huntsville High. The private school Randolph is also in that area. A lot of our friends live in Blossomwood and love it. If I was moving back, I would choose between those. Great neighborhoods for families.
I was just responding to your post that said parents that don't vaccinate should be out of the general population. As a parent that lived through a child having a seizure from one, it struck a nerve.

I am surprised you posted that after almost dying from one. It has made our family very cautious of them. I gave my daughters their boosters and most to my son. He still gets a titer test every year to see if he needs his MMR booster. Still good at 12 with no booster.

Vaccines are very important, but every case is different. We vaccinated our children from day 1 and then our son had a seizure after receiving his DTAP. It was terrifying.

The Neurologist explained it pretty well to us. He said Penicillin is an amazing drug for most, but it can be lethal to others. There is a reason you have to initial for every vaccine your child receives. It is very naive to think every parent that doesn't vaccinate their child completely should be sent to a remote island. I hope you never experience what we did.
We live in Destin. If I was to vacation around here, I would rent a house in Blue Mountain Beach. It is not as crowded as other beaches around. You still get the old 30a feel somewhat. So many places you will be stuck renting an umbrella and chairs 5 rows back. That would be miserable to me.

We go to Islamorada every spring. It is so beautiful and has great restaurants. We rent a house now, but use to love staying at the Cheeca Lodge.
Is that a cockapoo trying to eat the brisket? It looks just like mine. Sweetest dogs! Brisket looks good too
Thank you for sharing your pictures and experience. It breaks my heart to see some of the pictures. You went to all of our spots. We will be back in 2019.

Try the power catamaran next time. I never felt like I was camping. It wasn't the Ritz, but it was an experience we plan to do every 2 years.
We chartered a 48' from Marine Max in 2016 out of Tortola. There was 6 couples so we had 2 catamarans. It was the best trip, and we plan to go back in 2019. We are lucky because we live at the beach and most are comfortable with being a captain. We just made sure we were anchored before the party began. If that wasn't the case, I definitely would have wanted a captain. A chef would have been a waste of money for us. When you leave Soggy Dollar and Willey T's you don't really care what you eat. We grilled on the boat most nights, but wanted to eat out a few nights. It is the most amazing trip!! Have fun

Boshamps and Harbor Docks only serve local seafood. Hands down the best seafood. Boshamps is so nice during the day. You will have a wait at night. It was not the restaurant that made LSU fans mad a few years ago. That was Harry T's. Someone mentioned that.

The Back Porch, Crab Trap and Pompano Joe's are all on the beach. It is pretty, but your seafood will be off the same truck that visits your hometown. Only get their local catch specials. It will not compare to Harbor Docks or Boshamps though.

We love going to the Bay and Stinky's that were both mentioned. It just depends on how far you want to drive.

Marina Café is our favorite fine dining in Destin. Bistro Bijoux is incredible in Sandestin. I hope the insight from a local will help:)

re: Scary as hell cancer story

My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November. If your friend has ovarian cancer, she needs to go to a gynecological oncologist. This is the most important thing she can do at this point. It is a very complicated disease. This disease is very serious. I can't believe she was told to do chemo to be safe. Taxol and Carboplatin are a given with ovarian cancer.

If you are close to them, please tell them to go to specialist at MD Anderson or the Mayo Clinic. I am sorry and praying for your neighbor

It is very scary. My mom had perfect blood work and was doing great 4 weeks before her diagnosis.
