I agree. I mean good for her but anybody that is successful and did not receive a full ride from their parents likely has a similar story.

Well i don't think most 28 years old nursing students worked multiple jobs in high school and college, got through school while being a parent and also lost most of their family in a fire / other accident.
Its not likes she is the first person ever to go through all that, but she certainly overcame more obstacles than the majority of 27 year old students - at least in my experience.

Nursing students have to work a ton of hours. Most of the hours they have to work in masters and doctoral nursing programs are unpaid. I know this because my ex-wife had to do that to become an NP. If you see anyone with advanced degrees, you have to know they have worked a ton of unpaid hours as well as a ton of hours to pay for their education.
Yes she lost family members and that happens to a lot of people as well. Life goes on.
Again, not taking anything away from her, but if you interviewed any other doctoral nursing candidate they would tell you a very similar story.

Good stuff. On a side note, my wife is a RN and I hate how some nurses wear so many pins and badges. It reminds me of Jennifer Aniston in Office Space. You need more flair!!!

Nothing is easier than taking the half full view about anything. I could poo-poo her and most on here if that was the point, I owned two houses by her age...one on the LSU Lakes... and paid cash for both...so big deal...right?
But over the years, I never gained even the kind of wealth you'd expect from many medical or legal professionals. The point is, and why this is so great to see, that THIS is simply the American way....good old fashioned hard work paying off....and SO MANY have lost sight of THAT process while complaining and trying to find something to blame for their circumstances. She shows us how it is still done. Awesome story for the times, IMO.
