Sure lots of people have (1) started working at 16 and using the money to help contribute to their parents / the family money, (2) put themselves through school with multiple jobs (3) had a kid while in college having to stop and go back to finish school (4) had a major tragedy losing multiple family members in a single swoop.
However, its the combination of all these factors that i doubt "any other doctoral nursing candidate" would have a similar story. Not that it matters, its just a nice story about someone working hard and persevering through hardship to reach their goals.

I would say at least 50% have a similar or worse story. Also, most doctoral nursing candidates are older and are only going back to school after nears of slogging as a BSN.
Again, this lady is 27 and has her stuff together, but so do so many people. I'm not downing her, just saying she is doing things right but so are a large portion of people.

And i would say that 51% didn't persevere through quite as much. I don't think the majority of nursing school students are graduating with a child.
ETA: this argument is idiotic btw. - the simple point is a person overcoming some hardship and working hard for over a decade to achieve her goals.

Look, I don't want to get into the discussion of whether having a child while in school was a smart decision. I'm just saying that getting her degrees while 27 is not an uncommon matter.
If you said this was a 35 year old woman that decided that she wanted something better for herself and her child and went from working in fast food and in 10 years was getting a doctorate, then I would be VERY impressed and that woman should be lauded.
Working in fast food while a teenager is not uncommon. Having a second job is not uncommon. Working your way through school is not uncommon. Going to school while a single mother is not uncommon. Losing family members is not uncommon.
A majority of doctoral candidates graduate in their mid to late 20s.

I'm willing to bet she worked most of the time she was in school. My guess is she worked at the hospital as a nursing assist while getting her LPN, even if just part time. I feel even more sure that she worked as an LPN the entire time she was getting her RN. Most do. And she's also gonna be working while obtaining her doctorate. This is what sooo many nurses do that I would almost bet my life on it. So good for her as she has clearly worked hard and come far. She's an example to ANYONE that goals and success can be attained--but no one promises it's going to be easy.
ETA: to the person who accused her of being a perpetual student--have you not met many nurses? The ones I know are constantly going back to school for more certifications or to further their degree. I joke that they're glutton for punishment but so many truly have a heart for caring for others and learning how to advance that care at any given opportunity.

Right ... but all four of these things happening to the same person who is still able to get her degrees at 27 - not taking time off after multiple family members passed and not letting the fact that she is a parent going to school and also working her way through school delay her too much - is somewhat uncommon and most people going through school don't have to deal with quite as many external issues.
