Good trainers instruct officers not to stand in front of a car or to jump on the hood.

Imagine the tears if driver gunned it and ran over the cop killing him.

He disobeyed me, I had to try and kill him.

Looks to me like the cop escalated the situation by putting himself in front of a moving car... almost like he was justifying his action. What do we classify premeditated shootings that result in death as? Murder 1

In the position the cop is in when he fires the first shot (standing on the side of the car as it would have driven past him), it is physically impossible for the car to hit him, unless the driver backs up and makes another attempt

Lets do a little drill. Go stand by the front left tire of a car. Then tell the driver to turn the wheel as hard as they can to the left. Lets see how impossible it is to get hit.

If you dont want to put yourself in peril, just put a light pole in the same position on your car, then turn the wheel and hit the gas. You will strike the pole

That wouldn't make murder1...maybe murder2...
Either way, cop used human roadblock

I tend to agree. If the perp truly wanted to run the cop over, why wouldn't he have just floored it right into him? It looked more like a rolling stop at a stop sign. Dude was crawling.

I support LE but think this is a case of excessive force by a trigger happy officer.

That is UNLESS the driver had a gun.

The cop definitely started shooting from the side of the car then moved in front.

The audio doesn't match the video perfectly. Watch the gun and glass instead of listening to the shots. Turning off the volume helps. The car came to a stop at the same time the cop started shooting while he was still on the side of the car. Then the cop got in front of the car which starts moving again.

Disciplinary records reviewed by the paper showed Starks has been reprimanded 10 times since 2015, leading to nearly a month’s worth of suspensions.

Irrespective of this incident, it sounds like he may not be a great cop.

Failure to comply.
Actions have consequences, and if the driver had learned this in his prior 30 years on this planet he's still be alive.

Here are the steps to avoid being shot by a cop:

When I get nervous, I tend to put my hand in my pocket. Last time I got stopped I put my hand in my pocket and the officer told me to take my hand out and leave them out. I complied and held them out to the side. If I kept disobeying him, might have been shot.

Can we add that at some point during all this the officer identifies that the driver is also armed with a firearm?

Could reaching for it be why the first shot was fired? Also you move and shoot. Don’t stand still waiting for suspect to shoot back. He moves around towards the front to get a better and safer angle to continue engaging as the suspect starts easing forward / foot relaxes on the brake?

Either way, I’d call it a good shoot but sucks that this officer will likely be plastered all over the news, slandered by the suspects community, and an already shitty career get even worse. I’ve talked to a lot of LEOs that are scared they’ll have a career and life ruined in the event they are forced to use deadly force.

There is no way for anyone watching that video to come to that conclusion with any sort of evidence what so ever.

Maybe he did, Maybe he didn't. Based off the video alone he's going to have a hard time explaining why it was necessary to respond to a person attempting to drive off from a stop with deadly force.

so it's ok to put the passenger's life in danger by opening fire? that's negligence on the officer's part. it's not like he wouldn't have eventually been caught had the cop chose not to fire.

Other than the officer states clearly on video either to his dispatchers or other officers that “he still has a gun”. Suggesting that the guy had a gun, was engaged and shot multiple times, and still has it in his control while suffering from multiple gun shot wounds

well if the cop had de-escalated.

All kinds of "what if's":

What if the dead idiot didn't have such a zhitty Mom....

What if the dead idiot wasn't such a piece of human garbage....

What if the dead idiot had decided to do something constructive that day.....

What if we stop paying idiots to breed.....

Bottom line: Every single bad thing that happened to that dead idiot was a direct result of bad choices he made.

Didn't hear that part. But I'll trust that the officer isn't making it up and give him the benefit of the doubt.

I stand by the rest of my comments that he was clearly standing on the side of the car and started shooting well before stepping in front of the car.
