I'd go further to say they acted VERY appropriately. The passenger was unharmed. The perp who stole a car then attempted to run over a cop was neutralized. Job well done.

answer: he was piece of shite who would still be alive if he had put the gun down and got out of the car like the officer requested several times.

but does a person deserve to die over a stolen car?
1. A police officer has the right to protect his life just like anyone else. If he thinks his life is in danger he's going to shoot.
2. The officer had to consider the potential impact to law abiding citizens should his letting the driver go result in a car chase on public roads
3. The LEO's gun was drawn and pointed at the driver while he issued very clear commands on compliance
4. In the tape the LEO says "he still has a gun" 1:15
The driver made the choices that resulted in the outcome of his getting shot and it has nothing to do with income, race, education.

Everybody arguing about the shooting and I'm wondering why the cop hit the suspect's car while the cop was still on the hood?

I support LE first and foremost, but this one isn't cut and dry. Without knowing if the guy in the car pulled a weapon, firing on a car thief form that position looks suspect at the very least

position. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't think he would have deserved being shot 15 times for stealing a car
How many shots are are warranted? 5?

Maybe so. But if you can't see the cop standing to the side of the car in a position he actually can't be run over, when the first shots are fired, I don't know what to say. Start the video with your eyes closed and pause when you hear the first shot. The cop is clearly to the side of the car. He or others may well be in other danger warranting the shots. But the cop is not in danger of being run over at the time of the first shot. He then gets several shots off as he walks backwards, before putting himself in front of the car. The driver is already shot by the time the cop puts himself in front of the car.
Not taking sides. Glad the guy is off the streets. Just stating what appears clear in the video, and will likely be the arguments used against the action that was taken.

Ok...so why does it matter that he got in front afterwards? Even if he got out of in front naturally when he saw the guy coming at him?
Maybe IN THE MOMENT he felt he had a cleaner shot to put a stop to it, and also help avoid shooting the girl in the front seat.
I guess criminals should be told that if their instincts have them "running over a cop," then the cops instinct will be to shot'em. Pretty simple.

Did you know it was a black guy when you wrote this? If not, and knowing now, will you stick to it 100%??

I’m surprised by the lack of emotion from the girl with him.
She almost got lit up by the cop vehicle crashing into her door.
She was pretty indifferent to the situation.
As for the hood surfing at slow speed, it seemed like the driver thought he could call the officer's bluff and the officer would get out of the way and the chase would be on but the officer wasn't bluffing.
World is a better place without the idiot. . . assuming he died.

The responses from the lawyer and mother are kinda funny.
Should add to this that he was running around with a girl that just got out of prison, in a stolen car, and with a gun in plain sight at minimum.
Does she really want officers around her for support right now? Seems like an odd proposition.

The car has a steeering wheel. Should the cop wait until he is struck?

Is the family the District Attorney? How are they going to prosecute him?
