This has nothing to do with philanthropy and everything with lazy, dishonest, trashy beggars that hold out their grubby little hands in a digital format. People like you.

I know someone who sends them a request for money with a happy whatever note.

I don't condone it but I also laugh at it.

I'm not citing specific examples. You all have seen it yourselves in your every day life.

There’s also a generation that seems perpetually outraged over any culture change and their coping strategy is to express their outrage on a message board or social media. Or maybe take comfort with their emotional support animals who really get them.

I don't know, man. Maybe that's nuance I'm not plugged in to. It's people often seeking to benefit from others good nature.

There’s nothing to be “plugged into” one is for getting donations from people, the other one is just an invisible debit card.

This is the perfect example of what I believe OP was referring.

I don’t know you from Adam’s house cat, yet you would like for me to send you money because you got married, or just had a baby.

Y'all didn't know that a couple who has just gotten married would like for you to buy them a shot if you wanted to? How did you not know that?

The simple fact is that it is not the people asking, it is the person being asked who is made uncomfortable when they thing someone thinks they are a cheap bastard for not donating. Personally I don't give a frick what anyone thinks....if I donate I donate, if I don't I don't. I don't feel guilty if I don't and I ain't put off by being asked...I can only control my own actions, not those of others. I can, however, refuse to allow them to control my emotions and make me feel guilty or uncomfortable or angry....

My confession to the OT.

I did consider standing at the I-55 exit ramp to St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson (A popular Jackson beggar location) saying, "I had no idea how expensive a Viking Cruise was. Donations Appreciated" I have a crumpled cardboard piece and a Majic Marker that I could use and some older clothes.

Do you guys think this might work? I try to leave Tuesdays open for project work, so I have the time, and honestly, Viking River cruises across Germany into Switzerland are getting pricy these days.

The lady that normally works that location just sits on the ground, propped against the light pole with her sign in her lap and I think I might do better then her if I worked at it. I see a guy who waves at everyone, and I might try his begging method.

You'd probably be surprised how many people and how much money you'd raise. Not because people want to help you fund a cruise but because they'd appreciate the humor. It would give them a chuckle or even a sizeable laugh...and that is as good for the soul as anything any preacher or church has ever done and almost no one is put out by their begging....

Do what you want with your money but me personally I’d never just give money to random people that I did not know.

Even people I do know I won’t just give them my hard earned money. I’ll help you out any way you can think of. Feed you, house you, help you get a job etc. but I refuse to just loan you money.

Yeah, I was teasing. But all kidding aside on this topic, I've had to seriously hold my thoughts in a few times when seeing some GFMs in my tiny town. I've seen some from people/families who most certainly didn't need the help overall. Needing help is one thing. Wanting to be made whole on your part of a parent's burial isn't.

I usually just say no. It works surprisingly well. Short and too the point. If they persist I don't say anything else and proceed about my business as if they ain't there. They usually get the point pretty quick...theirs is a volume business and they do not have time to convince folks to give, folks have to have the impulse to do so and the beggar has to ask as many as possible to find the few with the predisposition to give. If, however, they start in with being hungry I will offer to buy them a meal. I won't give them money because I do not carry cash but I will buy them a meal. Most will gladly accept it...they gotta eat and I would feed a hungry cat if I knew it was hungry, the least I could do for another person regardless of why they are hungry.

It's not that they have no class. It's that they have no SHAME or ACCOUNABILITY

I would rather go without than have to (essentially) beg others to live a lifestyle I could not afford. However, it has become abundantly clear many don't share that mindset.

In the end though, I don't blame the "beggars". I blame the givers.

Unexpected medical bills for your child due to an unexpected illness/injury beyond anything your insurance may cover? How much do you need?

Additional funds to keep your unsuccessful business a float just because YOU think it is important to society? Go F' yourself!

You are correct sir. So that tells me you actually completely understand what he is saying then. I don't have to correct the semantics to get understanding of his intent. Your wife should enjoy those marital arguments with you.
