Probably a mix of both. Hard to find the product placement in that pic with the whale shark, unless there's something in the caption since OP didn't link to their IG account

Most are probably themselves setting a camera on a timer or remote shutter. Or other travelers and IG famous people that they hang out with.

For the family I posted, they've gotten famous for their IG so photographers in the places they visit ask to shoot them.
