That is a great parade day, I think 5 parades now. I wouldn't recommend this the 2nd weekend but I would go park by the downtown Rouses. At each street there are open areas where you can walk right up to the route on St. Charles. Rouses has restrooms 2 blocks away you can use. In addition to food trucks numerous places to eat and drink. And its by far the easiest area to get back on the interstate.

Another vote for St Charles/Napoleon area. Sacred Heart bathroom deal is great. $5 bathroom all day and they keep those porto potties clean as hell plus they offer hand sanitizer. Better than the nasty restaurant/bar bathrooms. Parking is the worst part. Be prepared to walk a bit.

Don’t listen to the pussies; it’s stressful but everyone should experience it at least once.
Here’s my take: it’s so much easier to get a hotel room that has valet. Come in Friday night and leave whatever day you want but do it early before the parades start.
Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE THE CAR OUT WHILE PARADES ARE GOING ON. Even if you think you can get around them/take alternate routes. You can’t.

B. You have to walk all the way around the hotel to be on the street (and back again for the bathroom) or stay inside the locked gate area. Probably not real easy with kids. And food is superior next door so I hope you like Mexican or walking. The lot also gets filled up even though it is supposed to be one car per room.

I would go to MS gulf coast or Mobile for a family trip, too. They have decent parades and a bit less debauchery.

1. He is talking about the first weekend of Mardi Gras. I highly doubt all rooms on the avenue are all booked. Even at a few hundred bucks a night it's worth it.
2. They don't put up the gate on the first weekend of parades. Even if they do, it's still the cleanest and easiest bathroom situation on the route. Also Superior is selling access to the restaurant this year so you won't be able to just go in and get food without buying a table for the entire day. Anyway the point of a hotel room is that you can bring your own food and head up there when you're hungry
You are also guaranteed a spot in the lot with a room. 3. It's convenient with kids too.

The Hampton is sold out and there aren't many other hotels on the Avenue except closer to downtown and I doubt the guy wants to stay in that area.
Yes, even hotels on the first weekend are in high demand and expensive.
Hell, even a lot of normal weekends that Hampton is over $200 a night.

Absolutely. We'll be there all day that day.
St. Charles @ Louisiana is where we'll be with 4 chirrens.
Very family friendly and not overly crowded for a ton of parades that day.

Actually that is a great idea and I can't believe they haven't done it sooner. It's a pain in the arse to wedge your way in there that week of Mardi Gras. This way you pay whatever they charge per table and have that table all day. You also don't have the randoms going in and out using the bathroom. They will make just as much money and the staff won't be as stressed. The columns hotel does that on Mardi Gras day and it works very well.
