It’s bad for your brain and long term health. Even a few drinks are bad. I recently switched from lightly drinking every week or two to not at all. Feel great and have just as much fun.
Yesterday I went to a BBQ and was the only adult not drinking. Had a great time and remember everything. No hangover or grogginess today either.

Research shows that 2 drinks a week or less is the limit for the normal person without having negative effects from alcohol.
I just save my 104 drinks per year to all be had during LSU games and concerts

How’s that Justin Moore song go again
“Someday I Gotta Quit”
One day I’ll quit but it ain’t gonna be tonight!

couple of drinks here and there. Even just a little makes me feel anxious and depressed the next day.
Yeah, no.
Wow. Yeah cut it out if it’s that bad.

There really is no real benefit to drinking so this is a smart move

Recommendations? I heard Busch N/A tasted like beer.
Busch NA is honestly not bad at all.
Athletic Gold and Heineken 0.0 are my go to’s. O’Doul’s isn’t terrible, and a lot of time that’s all restaurants will have. Budweiser NA and Athletic Light are like water.

I find my problem isn’t with overall consumption, it’s with the individual “missions” I seem to put myself on from time to time. I can go weeks, even months without drinking and and I don’t miss it. I can have a couple of drinks at dinner without issue.
But every once in a while, I’ll have one drink and something flips in my brain. I’ll drink 2/3 of a fifth of scotch and feel like hammered shite for the next three days.

Whatever positives there seem to be from alcohol certainly don't outweigh the real negatives.
I've had like one alcoholic beverage since my mother passed away a year and a half ago.
Her death wasn't any reason for me to stop though. I rarely drank even before that.
I really haven't drank socially much since college days. It helps that the wife is essentially a teetotaler.
But do as you please. I'm speaking for myself.

So all you're saying is you don't know how to do it. I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but it can be as simple as engaging in a tipple, but knowing you need to be asleep by 11, even if it's a weekend.
Again, you male mental health heroes that believe in teetotaling, where does this anxiety and depression come from? It's not from Guinness. It's from knowing he ignored his boss' emails four hours before and dreading the morning status meeting, it's not the beer, or some similar scenario, usually about indecision and uncertainty.

Well, when the enjoyment I got out of it began to be overshadowed by how shitty I felt the next day, I wised up and quit thst stupid shite. I did not make any big virtue signaling announcement and I still have a drink from time to time at a football game or the duck camp…but those are few and far between. I honestly could quit altogether and would not miss it at all.

Yea, I’ve certainly had negative effects from getting drunk.
I’ve never had negative effects from a few drinks at dinner or a couple beers on my patio.

Stopping drinking is hard. I can go several days without, but always seem to find my way back so obviously I have a problem. When I do take a few days off I don’t go through withdrawals, but I worry that those are around the corner. I pretty much quit drinking liquor, but I enjoy beer. I’d appreciate any constructive recommendations from those of you that have been in the same boat, but that have ultimately have kicked the habit. It’s a question of mental strength, of course. Anyone have any tips on how you rid yourself of this demon? Thanks in advance.

I enjoy red wine with dinner. It's one of life's great pleasures. But that's all I drink; no beer, or hard liquor.

I just stopped about 7 weeks ago and it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The sleep quality, energy levels, lack of anxiety/depression, nauseu, etc. I enjoy a good buzz, but the after effects for a couple of enjoyable hours are just not worth it to me anymore. Especially as I prioritize my faith, health/fitness goals.

Not entirely true.
It offers the ability to lower your standards

You’re 44. You really can’t decide these things by yourself? Drink or don’t. Why do you need opinions on the matter?
