Probably if we're talking about OM or da parish.

Everything in NOLA is a pretty easy drive to Arabi, so I'd keep the whole city as an option.

Or find some land down the road past Violet if it's still pretty uninhabited down that way.

Buy a house in English Turn Subd and take the ferry, pick up some Rocky and Carlo’s for dinner on the way back.

English Turn is still in Orleans Parish. There's a reason property values there have been stagnant or falling. You'd be better off buying in Belle Chasse.

Old Metairie is awesome. You pay for it, but it’s safe, convenient, well kept, and has access to everything. I love it.

What’s the dating scene look like. I heard there were a lot of sloots in Old Metairie.

Flood will be high just like in Orleans!

Parts of Algiers (Woodland Heights) and other places close to the river are elevated enough that it isn't required by your mortgage company. I still got it since it was less than a dollar a day

Yes to old Arabi.

Yeah if you can find a house, that area is hot.

OP I'm guessing you would be out of the "new" hospital in Chalmette? If so Arabi and Old Arabi. Some of the newer construction in Arabi isnt terrible.

No chance in hell I would hoof it out of Slidell everyday.

It is fricking CRAZY what has happened to OM real estate prices.

OM has always been expensive, but it's a whole new ballgame now. People are out there advertising the few remaining 3/2s at 650K+ and putting in the listing that the property would be perfect to tear down and build new.

Go to Arabi, real talk. Even better “Old Arabi” by the river,

Older sections of Arabi from St. Claude to the river is nice and quiet with some pretty nice homes in that area.

I love the area that includes Angela St. that borders the Jackson Barracks and runs from St. Claude to the river. There are some very nice homes along that street.

Off Friscoville toward the Sugar Refinery there's Lebeau, Community and Center St. that have a lot of post WWII cookie cutter houses that are basically small single raised homes.

You will get more for your money in housing in St. Bernard as compared to N.O. and Metairie.

I have a job offer in Arabi that I am seriously considering taking. Are there any nice areas in St Bernard Parish that an OT balla from Northeast Louisiana can live or is it mostly methhead areas? Serious answers only please.

The short answer is yes. I moved back to Arabi (I grew up here) 3 years ago. St. Bernard gets a bad rap, and rightfully so in some aspects, but you're minutes from anything you could ever want to do in Nola. You can head the other way and go do some of the best fishing on earth. You're also 45 minutes from the Gulf Coast and a few hours from the beach.

Old Arabi is the way to go. I'm in what they call The Heights. Mostly newer construction and mostly younger, professional families. I live around doctors, nurses, a few state troopers, teachers, lawyers, real estate agents, engineers and some plant baws at Chalmette Refining.

Also, were else can you call the sheriff's office to let them know you're going out of town and they'll send a car by your house a few times a day to check on things? They are always out LOOKING for shite to get mixed up in.

There’s not as much of that as you’d think. Arabi itself is a pretty decent area to move.

Old Arabi is an interesting mix of old homes that have been renovated, old homes that were renovated cheaply after Katrina, and sone new construction mixed in.

Before you move to Old Arabi check out the issues with the Grain Train

Jumonville, Jumonville North, and Landry Court are areas befitting a physician

Lexington is decent also but it’s a step down from those

That store was there when I was a kid going to Arabi Elementary School in the early 60's and had likely been there for years before that.

One of the best sandwich places in St. Bernard. I know they also sell some hot lunches but I've never sampled any and always stick with the po-boys when I stop there for lunch.

When the weather's nice I'll grab a po-boy and soda and head down a few blocks to the river and sit my arse on the cement wall watching the river traffic as I polish off the sandwich. Nice and relaxing way to spend some time.

Now this is the kind of information that I was looking for.

ETA: Is old Arabi really that good? I mean it borders the lower ninth ward. Does the parish line really keep the culture that we all know I am talking about but would get banned if I actually wrote it away?

Meraux here, Lexington specifically. Love it. Old Arabi is a great option too. Great police and Fire Department. Property taxes are low. Make no mistake, this is a blue collar community. If you have Old Metairie expectations, you’re going to be disappointed.

Meraux

one of my first girlfriends in HS lived on Meraux Lane, I lived near Lafreniere Park / David Drive. Countless times made that 45 minute / 25+ mile drive home as the sun was coming up on Saturday & Sunday mornings. At 15 yrs old and having my own car to drive, I didn't care about the drive since I was chasing poon tang.

is that really a big deal? I mean I remember I keep seeing signs down that way in the Lower 9th when I head out towards my parents.

Haven't kept up with local news down there in a quick minute after the elections.

like the guy said, SBSO loves to get mixed up into shite.

After the tornado hit behind my parents house and destroyed parts of Old Arabi on Friscoville, the Sheriff's office had shite on lock down from the lower 9th.
