Nov 4th you could have thousands of people buried in lime pits a day and CNN and MSNBC won't even mention it. The "story" will have outlasted its usefulness.

Whenever we've had a mass event, things have changed and no we didn't go back to "normal". If you think things won't change from this, I'm not really sure what to tell you. Does that mean we'll continue doing everything we're doing right now? No. But there will definitely be lasting changes from this.

I agree to an extent. Take 9/11 for example and what it did to our security and rights as citizens (patriot act).

I think we will generally be a more hygienic country, which is crazy considering how clean we are compared to many others. There will most likely be a shift in the way corporate offices are managed as this has brought attention to the ability to work from home for many industries. I also think this has shown us how much most citizens are willing to bend over and let the government take it too us. What comes from that is the biggest concern.

For the most part, things will go back to normal. Restaurants cant survive half full, neither can sporting events. Masks will be gone as soon as the temps reach 90 degrees. Schools, camps and sports will be back as most parents are already tired of parenting. So what most people see in daily life wont really change. Life may move at a slower pace, which isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

Our society now more than ever lives in the moment and can’t see 5 minutes in front of their face.

It’s why everything happening this second is always the best or worst thing to ever happen. You see it a lot in sports discussions.

6 months from now this will hardly be a thing anymore. People are always just too caught up in the moment. It’s a product of social media and our news cycle.

This is my wife. Even after reading that there’s no reason to wipe down groceries, she’s still wiping down groceries. We went to a trail that was a little crowded and she got so worried that she checked our kids’ temperatures every hour for a full day. She’s never been the kind to worry about health.

but things will go back to normal once I start ignoring her worries and start having fun without her.

I have no problem being cautious as we flatten the curve but I will be heading out on the regular the second it’s okay to do so. And no, I won’t be bathing in hand sanitizer or bumping elbows.

"normal" is continuously changing

Hence why there will be a new normal.

Covid-19 and the lockdown has given the government power for even more intrusion and invasion of privacy. From mandatory vaccines, biological passports to contact tracing.

Now that they've taken real control, they will mandate that people agree to these privacy violations in order to work, get a driver's license etc.

Maybe not right now as they have to set it all up and create the networks and apps but when they do they will force people to comply threatening potential shut downs in the guise of public safety.

This shutdown has significantly hurt businesses, shown them who really has the power, and no one is going to want to go through this again so employers will be forced to make employees comply if they want to work.

For anyone thinking everything will go back to "normal" it won't. Sure masks and the banning of public gatherings will be lifted but the invasion of privacy, testing, vaccinations and tracking will be maintained just like the Patriot Act and Homeland Security has been in place since 9/11.

Based on the panic from the pandemic, the average American is incapable of independent thought and react exactly how they're told to react.

Completely agree. I wish that this whole thing would've caused people to disconnect from their phones and their tv's, but it's done the opposite since people are afraid to go outside. The first thing I did was delete facebook.

It's amazing in the world of social media how easy it is to be an "expert" on something, and as long as you have a blue checkmark, you're good to go.

Even if no one cornholes a bat at a wetmarket and this virus never happens, had we should be constantly updating our "normal".

Every day we should be stronger than the last, anyhow. Anyone who is not, is lazy and inviting a stronger rival to consume them. You don't stay in the driver's seat by getting complacent.

Survival is not an entitlement, not even for us. You go ahead and think so, and you'll gain the inside track to a Darwin Award.

The phrase “new normal” should be outlawed and people who insist on using it should be institutionalized.

I can honestly say I'm enjoying seeing kids playing, neighbors talking etc. I like a simpler life. I hope some of the good sticks around.

I think the government mandating that their businesses/employers shut down and economic insecurity is having a much bigger impact than covid.

My clients can’t pay their bills. I’m concerned.

yes, literally everyone but you questions that.

Imagine actually thinking restaurants will do reservation only 5 years from now because of this. Man, that's some naive thinking.

I don’t even know why they’re scared. Honestly the elderly who are the most vulnerable seem the least terrified to me. I go to the grocery store and see all kinds of young and middle aged people with masks and all kinds of shite. Then I’ll see a 75 year old man with no mask, nothing. Gives 0 fricks

We'll get back to a normal eventually. But corona flare ups may be part of it. The unfortunate thing is we may not be able to starve this one out like SARS and MERS. It got too far and is going to find communities to reservoir in because of the mildness for most. So possibly yearly shots like the flu as it seems the antibodies we get don't last long for this one.
