Things that made Dana Carvey, IMO, one the greatest comedians ever

He's 69, still going strong I'm sure
- he didn't have to try and shock people with content, he was just funny
- he always had that grin on his face (no need for a stern face to deliver sarcasm), you knew something funny was coming, and he let you know that he too knew it was coming. He was on the same side as you. He was having fun, and he didn't give a shite if you cared.
- he was never overtly political, even with or especially with the political figures he imitated
I don't know who to compare him to from the past
He was very different from John Belushi, who was also one of my top three

Aired for about six weeks circa 1995. Look up the documentary “Too Funny To Fail” about it.

Watch his podcast w David Spade. Video short eps on Fridays. Long form on Wednesdays. It’s really hard to believe he’s 69. He talks a good bit about health and fitness.

Apparently H.W. Bush loved his portrayal.
In one of his stand-up shows he talked about being invited I think to the ranch in Texas and tricking the USSS agent outside the door by calling him in the GHW Bush character's voice.

Clean Slate is one of the most underrated comedies of the 90's. The humor is really understated except for Dana Carvey's dog who wears an eyepatch & constantly runs into things. It's hilarious every single time. True comedy gold.

quote:so true. he is greatly missed. I heard a replay recently of him on the Adam Carolla pod talking about fricking his best friends wife in the arse, in the guys house while the guy was out cutting his lawn. Norm was truly greatness.

He's great. One of my favorites.
I appreciate the way he does his political characters. It is never from a place of hatred.

I’ve enjoyed his Biden portrayal on SNL the last few weeks.

He is funny
But a few weeks ago I watched the movie “master of disguise “ because i had seen The clip of him saying “Turtle Turtle” for years
Without any exaggeration, one of the worst movies ever made.
imdb says
The film is 80 minutes long -- only 69 minutes of actual movie, plus a 2 minute opening credit sequence and a 9 minute end credit sequence. The original cut was around an hour and 45 minutes, but it was so badly incoherent that it had to be edited down to 69 minutes (to the surprise of Dana Carvey). 9 minutes of the cut footage was put in the end credits in order to pad the film out to feature length run time.

I love Dana Carvey, but I don't think I could watch that movie.

His Biden impression is spot on, too. He's done it a few times on his podcast with David Spade. I haven't seen his SNL Buden but I'm sure it was great as well.

Lots of big names today were on that show, but were unknown at the time. Crazy that it was a big flop. I remember watching it when it aired and liking it.

He regularly roasted Bush Sr. on SNL and Bush invited him to the WH correspondent's dinner.
