I rent cars for work but whatever feature turns the engine off when stopped is by far the most annoying automobile invention since those 3 vents everybody put on the side of their cars in the 2000s.

that can be overridden, right?

You have to press the button everytime you start car

Or buy an expensive chip to override it permanently

I agree about the lane change crap and the engine shutting off when stopped. Fortunately I don't have those "features". One thing I really like a lot is the head-up display -- especially in conjunction with the navigation system.

The whole touch screen is bs. That is not safe. What is so wrong with buttons? I remember the days where I could operate my temperature, station and sound level without looking. And if I needed to call back somebody I flip my razor open and press send twice.

I must agree about the auto turn off. I hate that shite and I feel like in the long run its going to cause engine problems

Agree. I do not understand why car makers have forced this on the consumers. If they want it as an option, fine. But let me disable if I want to. It certainly is going to cause engine problems. That is a lot of extra strain on the starters and the engines.

you don’t have steering wheel controls?

old lady just got a new jeep, I haven't messed around with it yet but it has that feature, she said it can be overridden as it is, not a big deal to me except in the summer maybe

You can press a button and it stops. The catch is you have to press the button every time you start the car. It’s annoying as frick.

The first aftermarket product that comes around and let’s you permanently disable it will make millions.

I miss a plain flat metal key.

I used to have a key for 4 vehicles on one small keychain. Now you couldn’t fit all the fobs and key/fob combinations in one pocket.

Auto start stop is bogus. The incremental fuel savings won’t offset the increased wear and tear.

I think the newer safety features are a good idea but I wonder what the long term reliability of those systems will be.

Most things that used to be buttons and such can/should he relocated to the infotainment system. Basic climate controls and the heated/cooled seat controls are not in that group.

Auto off is fricking terrible and barely saves fuel at all.

Well, it’s MANDATORY on all new vehicles.... you don’t exactly have a choice. A lot of people find it extremely annoying and want to remove it.

was being facetious, I like keyless entry, push button start, not a huge fan of the engine stopping/starting but not much of factor to me either way, my truck is three years old and doesn't have any of that

Don’t get me wrong, improved safety and reliability are definitely appreciated, but I’m a bit old school when it comes to features. My wife and I bought her a new Acura RDX and while she loves the features, I hate them. I’m sure they are pretty standard on most cars with technology packages. I hate not having a knob to turn when I want to change the radio station or source. Instead I have to use a touch pad and stare at a screen while trying to drive in heavy traffic. I also dislike cars that by default shut off every time you stop at a traffic light. The RDX doesn’t have a way to permanently turn this feature off. You have to remember every time you start the car. If I move my foot a little while at a stop light the car either starts again or shuts off. I hope the starter is high quality. If I need to gun it to pull out in heavy traffic, I have to depend on the engine starting and being quick enough if I have the radio up and don’t realize the engine isn’t running. Though this car doesn’t have it, I am not a fan of built in alarm systems. I’ve had several cars where there was some sort of inconsistent bug that would prevent the car from starting that could never be duplicated at a dealership.

Give me simple controls with blue and red for climate control, knobs that I can develop muscle memory to operate without having to stare at a screen, and less stuff that will break and have to be updated with software.

That's a model/product line issue. My car I can permanently turn it off. It makes it even dumber that some manufactures don't have a permanent off though.
