Modern cars have very poor cabin visibility.
Which is why we have back up cameras, but those are a poor substitute, and only provide limited situational awareness.
We’d be better off, and safer too, if we could actually see out of our vehicles again.

Most of that is due to crash standards. The A pillars alone have have become so massive one has to look around them at intersections.
And that is because of mandated roof crush standards.
It seems I recall reading a Suburban could be dropped onto it's roof from like 20 feet without crushing.

Hate the crash avoidance crap. Has almost killed me a few times.
Driving is largely about timing. Car in front of you turning... you have it timed correctly... but the car disagrees and SLAMS on the brakes, causing the car or truck behind you to plow into you.
I've requested to have mine disabled, but can't do it.

6 pages in and I can't believe nobody has mentioned weight.
While weight is an effect not a cause and for a large segment of the car-buying public weight isn't a big deal as long as there is a proper increase in power my most dreaded addition to a new model year is mass.
The auto start/stop creeping across the landscape (but not mandatory nor universal) is one of the reasons people will embrace their electric overlords. Which is fine by me.

How does the default shutoff work with your AC. Say you are in dead stop or 1 to 2 minute stop traffic during the dog days of summer. Does it somehow keep the AC cooling?
This has to be a drain on your starter and battery..
I will not buy another car that doesn't have defeatable auto start/stop.
My tahoe and buick don't have it buy my malibu does.
IF you're running A/C and the blower is above a certain speed the engine usually just stays lit.
And this crap about "beefed up" starter motors you know has to be bullshite. No way in hell would they spend the extra money to make it more durable.

I hate that auto stop/start crap. Thats especially true when the ones that won't allow you to defeat that "feature."
The feature is worthless and is there to appease the envirofags.
It's ridiculous.

Or buy an expensive chip to override it permanently
Wouldn't that void the warranty?

On one of mine if you let go of the wheel it will pull back to the lane automatically.
That is something you want to turn OFF when driving on rain soaked roads. The system freaks out when you hit water.

The starter and starting system is very different than a regular car without an idle stop/start system.

I like being able to flash the brights with my foot, being able to change spark plugs, rolling down the windows, pushing buttons on the AM dial, my 8 track player and having a real bumper and fender.

I miss the old school sofa seats that were present in mid 70's to mid 80's tanks.

The way they sound.
I miss how my grandfather's old Ford truck sounded. That throaty rumble, the squeak of the steel door's hinges when it opened or closed, or the crackle of the radio in between stations. I remember riding in the middle on the bench seat, inbetween my father and grandfather, going down to his old deer lease when I was really small.
Miss you granddad.

When they phased out the floorboard headlight dimmer cars went to hell.

Can you imagine trying to flee a hurricane- or anything at all, really- in an electric car?
You're being convinced to accept something inferior. Full torque right off idle isn't great- a '77 Cutlass had that. AWD isn't any easier on an electric vehicle.

There may be a way to permanently defeat the auto stop via software. I can do on VW/Audi via OBD port. Maybe someone out there has the ability to do it on Honda products.

I can turn that terrible feature off on my 5 series. (It’s always off)
Should’ve bought a bimmer.

I miss those too.
The auto dim feature though is nice to have.

I am 52yo and have driven more than a million miles and never had to flee from anything, except if you count the time 35 years ago I ran from the cops after a drag race.

You haven't driven a current SOTA EV or you are lying to yourself.

It is absolutely incredible and no a '77 cutlass didn't, not even close. Are you lying on purpose or out of ignorance?

AWD isn't any easier on an electric vehicle.
Easier is a somewhat loaded term here but AWD on an EV has significant advantages. Just one is the ability to apply not just 0 to 100% torque to any individual wheel at any time but the ability to apply "negative torque" to any individual wheel at any time through regenerative braking. The increase in chassis control is amazing. I haven't even touched on the low CoM advantage or the ability to easily distribute mass across the chassis.
The only real negatives still left are range and charging time along with charging infrastructure and those tend to be very overblown for the vast majority of consumers.
The biggest winner as a result of EVs could be the US economy. The US still has a competitive edge over the rest of the world but all the division in the US over EVs is killing that day by day. Automobile production is one of the biggest economic drivers and the more we push back on EVs in the US the more completely we cede the market to the Chinese and Europeans. I am a dyed in the wool petrol head but I am not so biased I can't see a better solution when it is sitting right in front of me.
