The bobcat didn't survive? Could've been worse and hit the house.

Two bucket trucks were not tall enough to reach the top, so instead of renting a lift, they went the cheap route and staked their financial liability on a $30 rope.

That huge limb put all of the weight on one side. Any idiot could have seen what was going to happen without removing that weight.
Take it from someone who's subbed out tens and tens of thousands of dollars worth of contracts out to tree arborists for my equipment and operators: if your arborist shows up in a situation like that and doesn't have a climber to take it out from the top down, fire them.

That scenario needs a climber with hoists, ropes, pulleys and bucket trucks, but most importantly, a climber going up the tree to top it out.

Don't ever let a private tree arborist fell a tree of that size in one fell swoop that's surrounded by homes, streets and powerlines. If he tries to do so, he's incompetent, and you'd better hope luck is on your side.

EVER.

Lucky no one was killed. Is there not kind of training or school for this type of thing? Or common sense diploma?

It’s a hell of a lot easier to take a tree by cutting from the top down. Even if you could control the fall of a big tree like that, it’s a hell of a lot harder to cut it up when it’s laying on the ground.

Idiots.
I agree. This was a cluster frick from the beginning.

So dumb to ever try and take the whole tree. Need to put a climber up and fell the outlying branches first. I have cut down plenty of trees.

Good God. I experienced both relief and a touch of guilty disappointment that it did not hit the house.

Sure they will. They likely dont have shite to even be sued for. The neighbors insurance will pay to fix their house. The insurance company may go after them, but doubtful.

These guys will be back in business under a different name next week.

So you just Paul Bunyan that thing and hope for the best. Is that what these guys were thinking?

I think they were driving a wedge into a backcut.
