Glad to see it in the national news today. We circle jerk about it all the time in this echo chamber but that garbage arse city (AND MAYOR) need to be publicly shamed more often.

To be publicly shamed, one has to be capable of feeling shame.

I assure you, Latoya feels none.

I guess everyone has already left Jackson.

The wider metro area has continued to have some growth, but yeah Jackson proper continues to lose people.

I agree, but I’m not sure how you change it.

You can start by enforcing the law and showing assholes like Williams the door.

Latoya and NOPD can put all the police officers they can find on the streets but you can’t stop two people from killing each other.

It sure as shite helps. Ask NYC how they did it.

Most of those cities have something in common besides high murder rates

You’re prob right. Still like to see them get the spotlight for it. Get sick of that tired arse excuse “well there’s crime everywhere “. Yeah no shite but you’re leading the pack and getting exponentially worse.

They are at the “not #1 murder capital in the country” party. New Orleans wasn’t invited.

Even Baltimore and St Louis can throw shade on New Orleans for this. That’s how bad things have gotten in the last 2 years.

Well at least they have a competent DA who's working tirelessly to get criminals off the streets.

The gun laws seem to be working

Only 62 murders this year for a population of 220,000ish

That’s kinda my point. Showing people like him the door would require a culture change that I’m not sure New Orleans is capable of.

To use the other posters example, NYC had lots of backing from big money and businesses. New Orleans has some money and some businesses but it’s going to take a lot more to get people in charge who are actually concerned with tackling these issues.

Not a good headline to have when your entire economy is based on tourism.

NOLA posters

Should take a long hard look at what they are voting for and what they are doing to their city before they criticize any other town.

Am I blind or is Memphis not on there?

Memphis murders are down about 4% this year. St. Louis murders had been strange to figure out. It’s one of the few large liberal run cities whose murder rates have not continued to climb since 2018. It was uncovered earlier this year that they were not reporting all of their murders, though.

Murder rate was worse in the 1990s - but people didn’t want NOLA to fail then. Not so sure now
