The states with the highest deaths per capita are the states that forced nursing homes to take in covid positive patients.

That's what happens when you give hall monitors (governors) the power to shut down society. They crave that power. Arresting younger people for being out of the house and shoehorning sick people into care facilities.

yeah the "nursing home" issue is going to likely be a big one when this is studied in a few years

It's cool man, they made sure to get their family members out first before they sentenced everyone else there to death.

Around 40% of the deaths were from nursing homes.

It's definitely needed. We need to evaluate the initial response as part of our plan moving forward. I'm partial to reopening while quarantine particularly vulnerable people and those who wish to remain quarantined. I also want to see N95 mask production ramped up so that we can wear those if we so choose

What I find incredibly disingenuous is people who say something along the lines of "I knew this would be a nothing burger all along! Hoax! Scam!" despite there was literally no good reason to believe it was going to be nothing back in March and early April. Hell, we are about to cross 100k deaths in the U.S. in May despite lockdowns. This is not a nothing burger, and we still don't know if we will have a 2nd wave when temps come back down in fall/winter. It's easily the worst pandemic since the Spanish Flu. We've had as many deaths worldwide from it in 6 months as Swine Flu did in a year.

I know I’m not OT/Tigerdroppings famous but anyone that recognizes my username knows I’ve been team never close/open up. But this maybe a correlation/causation debate. Did they lock down because they were hardest hit or were they hardest hit because they locked down?

understand the reasoning behind some sort of lockdown initially like schools. However, by April, no one was staying home anymore and it was obvious what a big hit to the economy this was going to be as well as it wasn’t nearly as bad as people thought.

States should never have been locked down. Cities should have. Why is Albany or Syracuse locked down because NYC is/was getting hammered

Not a single one seems at all worried about the economy.

They want to use Coronavirus fear to legalize ballot harvesting in their state.

No, New Orleans did. And the demographic that has been hit most hard by this didn’t quarantine or socially distance.

None of this was nor continues to be justified.

People die - it is a fact of life.

Somebodies, somewhere decided to elevate this virus to unmerited heights for nefarious purposes.

Life is about living. One wishes to cower at home, cower yourself out.

Once the empirically based evidence is known about this virus and the costs associated with it we will learn it was much ado about nothing.

Have never in my 64 years witnessed such panic over a bunch of nothingness

"Wearing a mask is a courtesy to others"....what a load of absolute, total horseshat. If for some reason that is true then hush - do not need your editorialized look at me with disdain for not being courteous in kind.

Those models showing between 100,000-200,000 K deaths were so far off. No way this thing goes above 60,000 K. Hell, it'll probably be down to 0 soon.

Please point out where voter suppression happened. The only one I can think of in recent memory was the incident of the black panthers outside the polling stations in Philly

A study conducted by the state of New York earlier this month found 66% of COVID-19 hospitalizations came from those sheltered at home.

I think it’s clear that compulsory shut downs and wrecking the economy was unnecessary, but it’s going to be difficult to tell if the social distancing was a success or not.

If Democrats showed any concern for the economy over the years, I would still be one.

As fricked up as things are in Illinois, I feel really bad for Louisiana. Louisiana is getting a double hit from leadership that never really cared about economic growth and a collapse in oil prices. It’s going to be a bad few years.

Closer to 81% in Minnesota.

Why were nursing homes forced to accept Covid patients again?

Vents didn't work because we misunderstood the virus and we misunderstood the virus because we didn't try to understand the virus....we did what we always did in such matters and it didn't work.

If there is a takeaway for me in all of this...I hope we rethink our processes for understanding maladies such as this. Might just have saved us from a lot of unnecessary moments

Is akin to prescribing a broad spectrum antibiotic because we are too whatever to practice sound medicine by getting a culture and sensitivity test.
