The threat is not new, but the current status of the capability appears to be about a week old.
Setting aside the near mandatory comments about Dems vs. Republicans here, making the intelligence material available to all of congress is just about the fastest way imaginable for the information to become public, which puts the intelligence community in a very tough spot. Just because its on the front page of the New York Times doesn't make it unclassified.

Yeah abcnews is saying that Russia wants to put a nuke in space. Potential to lead to the next arms race of true since that's something all nuclear powers (including Russia) have agreed to not do.
