You could take Chief out of titles without really needing to replace it with anything.

How awesome is America, still, when people have nothing better to do than fix problems that we don't even have!

Being called chief is actually a positive.

The chief of a tribe was the head guy.

How is that even remotely derogatory?

Like when they removed the indian from the butter box. Stole her land again.

Shameful.

Are we going to get rid of CEO (although I guess LSU did) and CFO?

are we going to stop having Chefs?

Is Kansas City going to have to rename their football team into something lame?

It’s a good point. Also, Spanish is a big problem for these types, black is negro and there is the dreaded masculine and feminine words. “We need gender neutral language!”

quote:

chief (adj.) c. 1300, "highest in rank or power; most important or prominent; supreme, best, placed above the rest," from Old French chief "chief, principal, first" (10c., Modern French chef), from Vulgar Latin *capum (also source of Spanish and Portuguese cabo, Italian capo, Provençal cap), from Latin caput "head," also "leader, guide, chief person; summit; capital city" (from PIE root *kaput- "head"). chief (n.) c. 1300, "head, leader, captain; the principal or most important part of anything;" from Old French chief "leader, ruler, head" of something, "capital city" (10c., Modern French chef), from Vulgar Latin *capum, from Latin caput "head," also "leader, chief person; summit; capital city" (from PIE root *kaput- "head"). Meaning "head of a clan" is from 1570s; later extended to headmen of Native American tribes (by 1713; William Penn, 1680s, called them kings). Commander-in-chief is attested from 1660s.

Me thinks it is they who need to give us back our word.

What was the chief reasoning behind this decision? I'm caught by surprise, as this just snuck up on me.
