The Weather Apps got me good today.

Predicting only today and yesterday NO Rain. The rest of the week si suppose to rain like the dickens.
Got my Trim boards out painting and my front porch.
No Sign of Rain Anywhere.
Leave for Lunch to let dry.
MoonSoon comes down. Just Stopped Raining.

Typical weather in Louisiana. Rain chance is based on coverage, not intensity. We get (as I call them) tiny balls of death that pop up simply due to heat and humidity. They are difficult to predict.

You should supplement your forecast app with a quality radar app. Trust, but verify.

Forecast area is determined by the meteorologist. TV meteorologists typically use viewing area. Smaller areas depend on model runs.

My app was calling for scattered storms at dinner time. Got a monsoon just after lunch.

it was a very noticeable drop-off in prediction quality around that time. This is not a political comment, it is simply my experience. Wunderground has been my go-to site for forecast, especially for rain movement on the radar map. I know people love to say weathermen are overpaid to predict wrong, but the site/models have been spot on for 3-4 years, often down to the minutes and specifically the coverage area. It does not work like that anymore.

That why you cannot trust weather apps and models.
Look at a trusty radar and satellite imagery before making any decisions for outside work.
Don’t believe apps that tell you rain ending in 7 minutes or rain starting at 2:30 today.
Too many variables, this isn’t Back to Future II 2015 where they could get that level of accuracy.

It has a lot to do with the decrease in weather balloon launches across the country. Launches have been reduced significantly, and that data not only provides information at the regional and local level, but also collectively goes into every model that is used. A not insignificant amount of reliable data just no longer exists, at least not at all consistently.

I have never understood why people place faith in meteorologists or their silly apps. Meteorology is not quite a science, at least not in the traditional sense of a discipline capable of telling us what will actually happen. It is closer to astrology with Doppler radar. They will tell you there is a 40% chance of rain, which is really a confession, a way of admitting they have no idea whether it will rain. Mother, by contrast, simply looks toward the sky, feels the breeze, and knows.
