Exactly

And, FWIW, boomers didn't elect JFK and only had tiny impact in electing LBJ, if any.

We all know SSI is a pyramid scheme, and the government isnt going to let anyone not contribute, especially high earners.

I won't be able to draw a penny of the money we paid in until I reach FRA, 4 years from now. They really screw over sucessful people.

It is horseshite, and I would have been happy to opt out years ago

This is very stupid. Of course old people are having more spent on them. They are getting social security. Plus there are a lot more of them.

Mao would have loved you during the cultural revolution.

Blame the old people for everything.

And we are damn well worth it.

And it's due to us. That's our tax money. Them little bastards haven't paid anything into the system.

In fact, now that you've made me think of it, they need to give that $1 back to me.

That is the average, which is skewed by the massively wealthy.

Here is the median retirement savings:

Here is “average” 401k and IRA:

The older population has no money to their name, hence why they are adamant about maintaining SS.

Hell, those charts make me incredibly uncomfortable. Alone, without my wife’s finances, I am already above the older generations.

What the hell were you guys doing?

It’s skewed in the other direction as well which is why using medians and averages on aggregated data points across millions of people is lazy

I know. It is the most amusing part of this.

The generation that constantly tells people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, stop buying Starbucks, and lived through the greatest economic boom in US history is broke as hell and buried in debt.

As opposed to all the millennials that borrowed a fortune in student loans and want tax payers to foot the bill instead?

These threads are dumb.

I was busy building a company, and being pissed I had no choice but to contribute to a pyramid scheme.

I saw another chart that said only 2.4% of Americans had over $1M in retirement savings which validates your point about wealth concentration. I honestly thought that # would be higher.
