My message lists who they should contact if they can't wait for me to return, and those people have instructions to pick up the phone and call me if there is something they can't handle.

I took my work email off my phone years ago and I'm not looking at it when it's my families time. In five years it hasn't resulted in anything but positive changes for me.

If I email someone out of office, I just don't expect prompt replies.

Someone is welcome to email me when my out-of-office message is up, but I might not reply for a while. I would rather that than get nonstop emails the morning I get back into the office.

The situation is they continue emailing as if the person out of office is ignoring and not replying and continuing to ask if they got their email and can fulfill their request. Stupid person

I think this take is incorrect.

I want anyone that would have to email me to continue to email me.

My OoO though lets them know there will be no action taken from me so they better follow my OoO which explains who they should email with me being out.

But if they have multiple different things they are having to ask me about go for it. shoot those emails off. im not looking at my email until i get back in Office.

Other people’s work doesn’t stop just because you’re on vacation.

I’m conditioned to it I guess, but I cannot imagine this. It’d make me miserable at work letting shite pile up like that

Then that person’s stupidity sounds like their own problem.

As long as they are not calling me on vacation I am fine. It is customary for most professionals to at least scan emails while on vacation for pressing issues. You should set boundaries and remain on vacation, but you can also pivot on an issue and delegate a resolution.

You should start replying with a modifed OOO that says:

Hello - Once again I am OOO, please read inital message

Next one: Hello - Twice again I am OOO, pleae read last messages

As many times as possible. Grand finale can be a click this blind link for more details , link them to some study about how uninterrupted vacay improves outcomes

Can’t relate to this problem. When I’m on PTO I’m out, I’m not replying to shite. My OOO email auto reply includes my manager’s contact information as well as my equal in my department’s contact information. 99% chance you can ask them and get the same answer. My manager did have to reach out to me once with one specific question and it took me a grand total of 30 seconds to read her text and reply.

I don’t get this. Aren’t you out of office?

Ignore the calls. Ignore the emails.

If your position is such that you can’t, I hate to break it to you, you don’t get vacations. Hopefully you’re being compensated appropriately.

Do you have a backup listed?

My OoO lists a contact if they need immediate help. If not, they can wait.

If someone sends an email while I’m OOO, then multiple follow up emails while I’m still OOO, I won’t know about it until I get back. I don’t read emails when I’m OOO.

I state this in my OOO message along with my return date. I direct urgent requests to our team inbox. My team and my manager have my cell number if something is truly urgent.

I also state that I’ll respond in the order I received and I do exactly that. So that idiot is going to get a reply to the original email, then a copy/pasted “I’ve already replied to this” for every goofy follow-up he/she sent.

What’s even worse these days are the people who keep sending Teams messages while you’re OOO
