List should also include (depending on your definition of General) Admiral Horatio Nelson, King Richard I, Robert the Bruce, and William Wallace.
Also, Saladin may have been a muzzie, but his entire military career is full of kicking arse and he gave away almost all of his wealth to his men. The man knew the value of a stable supply chain and doctors during a campaign.

The fact they have Zhukov and Grant on this list tells me whoever put it together doesn’t know their arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to military history.

Everyone should read the recent bio of Sherman.
Crazy interesting life.
Didn’t want the war, just wanted it over quick for everyone.
And quite frankly, it’s like his whole life was designed to build him into one of the generals to end the war. Even to the point that he was familiar with a lot of the places he marched his troops.
Just a ridiculously interesting life.

not sure about 7th best general of all time but Grant certainly is THE general of the American Civil War.
Moreover, relative to the technology and demands of his era, Grant is arguably the greatest general in American military history.
Lost Cause historians spent much time and effort attempting to downplay his accomplishments as nothing more than the culmination of superior manpower/logistics but this is simply a false narrative. He had a brilliant military mind.

They probably didn’t fight enough battles to get the high ranking, just like Alexander. Oliver Cromwell has as impressive a military resume as Wallace and Bruce.

I thought he’d be listed, and he’s usually ranked high in these lists. But I think he’s a bit overrated. His legend and the eagerness of writers to trumpet a Muslim general kind of obscure the reality. Saladin was very good but I don’t think he should ever make a top ten list. He lost battles to Baldwin and Richard.

Agree that the list sucks. Napoleon basically took a lead into the locker room at halftime and ultimately lost. Also agree with the posters who said Grant and Zhukov just won with massive advantages in resources and manpower.
I would put Ike in the top ten. That brutha drove the Nazis out of Western Europe.
