Picked up the bottle of holiday booze this weekend and took it to the counter where the liquor store just installed a new payment card terminal.
The first screen asked if I wanted to tip 15%, 20%, or 25%?
Screw that. If you're not a fancy restaurant pay your employees a living wage and stop begging for tips.
Next time I'll buy booze somewhere else.

There’s a bunch of things that Europe gets right, no tipping and including taxes in the total are two of them.

Tipped $7 last night instead of the usual $10.
It was 23% of the bill tho so hard for the bartender to complain

Technology flipped the table. Employees used to be tipped after an interaction warranted it, now the tip comes first and their GAF level may but probably not even match the already ‘earned’ tip.
Really defeats the purpose if you think about it lol

I ate at a Thai place in Frankfurt and there was no tip option on the card reader, so I left a few Euro's on the table. They chased me down the sidewalk thinking I accidentally left money behind and gave it back to me.
But the bellhop at the hotel still expected to be tipped.

I fricking HATE that fricking computer screen that flips around and puts you on the spot RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PERSON THAT JUST TOOK YOUR COUNTER ORDER.
Good GOD....All they did was push some buttons on the cash register.
No tip and ask for a printed receipt so they see it.
This stupid shite has to stop.
Tip a server for outstanding sit down service? Absolutely.
Tip you 25% for handing me my takeout order? Frick no. I am already paying $15 for a burger and fries.

This. I'm leaving a dollar or two if I ever take out. I think the most irritating thing I see is Starbucks types wanting a tip for giving me a black coffee. frick off, you didn't even french press or pour it over. shite, it's not even an Aeropress at this point.

That’s the general idea behind it.

I tip servers, valets, etc. I don’t tip you for taking my order at the counter and I serve myself.

Was in New Zealand last week and tried to tip at one place and they refused. That thanked me and said my business was tip enough. WHOA

I went to an alamo drafthouse and saw a movie this week. They had signs about mandatory 18% tips, which is fine. I always do 20%. I’ll up it if needed.
I had a $16 meal and then 2 beers over a 2 hour movie. Beers didn’t have a price ( I asked but he said I’ll check, and then just brought the beer anyways) but i I figured 8-10. Got back a $58 bill with the gratuity added.
Wtf.

LOL - nope, just had kids that worked as servers through college. I heard all of the horror stories.

I’m not a fan for the opposite reason. I almost always tip 20% and when ‘above and beyond’, like to recognize that. The requests often cap off at 20% and it’s a pain to customize and submit a larger tip.
Congrats on funding those Marxist baristas

People are cutting back on tipping, frustrated by ubiquitous requests for gratuities
As prices of everything continue to rise, while the consumer's income stays the same, tips will continue to decrease. Was this not expected???

I tipped my server 100 bucks on 54 bucks worth of pizza the other night.
She wasnt a great server, but she made my son laugh and it's christmas.
Your reference to “pizza” gives it away brah.

Look, I'm certainly not saying people need to be tipping at Starbucks or the local takeout, but it's not like the employees are the one putting the tip screen on the page.
It's some automated system that the owner bought that includes the tip screen, the employees didn't go begging the owner to have it.
So, when you try to rub it in the employes' faces, you just look bad. Just don't tip and move on.

It’s always fun when we get business visitors in from Europe or Asia for the first time and we have to try to explain this s**t.
