Cool. You don’t live in reality.

quote:Ok, so your parents together brought in ~$4200 per month in today’s dollars.
You are assuming that my mother didn't work as well? She made $130 per week. Bruh. They shared a used Datsun b210.
With the current median mortgage rate, which is higher for 1st time buyers, their payment would be over 50% of their monthly income.
That’s insane.
So, again, your parents were able to both work, bring in about $4200 per month (I will assume post-tax to give you the benefit of the doubt), purchase a home, and raise children (if your mother worked, I assume there was some form of childcare).
And their income together would be on par with the US’s current median income for a single person.
That is insane.
They could do all of that with both parents combined making less than the median income for a single person today.

Also, why did he choose 1956 as the year to compare?
Maybe no one did a comprehensive sampling and compiling of homes data until then?

The idea that a recently married couple- the wife a nurse and the husband in finance- would buy this house is a fricking joke.

The people that bought those homes are dead. You should compare the year Boomers were in their late 20s or early 30s. So that would be the late 70s into the 80s.
Does he get to factor in the trifecta of double diget inflation, mortgage and unemployment rates as well.
Those selfish Boomers have no idea how hard we have it today!

I didn't know I was going to be audited! $200 bucks a week for both parents sound better? For fricks sake. Deflect away.

Why pick 1956?

But they want the same “time price” without having updated the house since the 1950s.
One guy told our realtor that the house was worth $400k based on sq ft and land and location. She agreed and said yeah, but you need to put $100k into to modernize it. Didn’t want to hear it. Owns the house but wouldn’t take $300k. Still on the market for a year, no offers.

think other than higher percentage of HVAC and ranges the rest wouldn't be so drastically different. A 2,000 sq ft house was gigantic in 1990, at least in south louisiana.
If gigantic means the upper range for average then this statement is true otherwise it is false.
