Much like cars, houses have had features added that drive the cost up. Some are features and some due to regulations. I’d get rid of several features in my car that added cost and will never be used.

A few things:
That post isn't accounting for the fact that the percentage of Americans holding college degrees went from around 7% in 1956 to 42% in 2025. That skews the average salary upwards and ignores the lower middle class.
Y'all also aren't going to like that the author cites zoning laws as a reason for the inflation of housing costs. The libtards are going to put y'all in one of those spooky walkable cities if you follow that line of argument

You guys REALLY need to do the math before making comments.

Yea, they’d sell to a couple where the wife is a bank teller and the husband a pest control employee.
I make $225,000 a year and have 3 college degrees. I bought a 75 year old house that cost $185,000. That was three years ago. It had one bathroom. We added another in the large laundry room. Comparable houses in that neighborhood don’t last a day on the market and it’s not a bunch of poors buying them. I’m not saying there are people out there in my financial situation that will buy more than they need but plenty of upper middle class people buy cheaper housing.

I would argue that today’s houses are a million times more energy efficient. Double pane windows, more efficient HVAC, better insulation.

Do you feel like you're making a point here?

The idea that a recently married couple- the wife a nurse and the husband in finance- would buy this house is a fricking joke.
Sounds like people need to tamper their expectations when buying their first home.

So you're saying living in CA is better than BR?

I can tell you with a million % confidence that a college educated couple with jobs in finance, stem, health, etc are not living in that home or remotely buying it
Just my single anecdotal example:
Friends of ours, wife is finance and husband manages real estate purchases for Amazon. They live in a single story home like that with 2 kids.
Your view isn’t even based on anecdotes. It is simply a skewed opinion based on what you “feel” is reality.

Is that the same confidence level when you said the ghetto shooting was right beside the White House?
How can you make these crazy rants then come back on here like you're sane?

My point is your 75 dollar a week anecdote means absolutely zilch in buying a home in the last 50 years and that the reason that house is still on the market after that long is it’s probably falling apart or in foreclosure or both

You are assuming that my mother didn't work as well? She made $130 per week. Bruh. They shared a used Datsun b210.

You would be laughed out of the bank if you even tried to get a loan with that amount of income.

Well shite what else haven’t you told us?
Did they win the lottery too?

My point is they fricking struggled and shite was hard. How many people that are bitching would live there and share one beat to shite used car just to try to improve their lot? Not many. Instead they just complain about how tough things are now and nobody knows their sorrow.
