This is the house I grew up in when my dad made $75 per week. 986 square feet, no central air, in the ghetto. 12% rate.

The first house I bought wasn't much better. We called it the slanty shanty. At least it had central air that kind of worked.

I have a hard time listening to people who say how great the boomers had it. Yes it sucks now, but people starting out now do not have a monopoly on tough times.

Ultimately, home builders are going to build what consumers want.

As real wages rose dramatically in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, so too did the demand for larger homes.

This house being built today would not sell above construction costs:

The idea that a recently married couple- the wife a nurse and the husband in finance- would buy this house is a fricking joke.

Seems like something a thirsty realtor would post on BoomerBook.

Answer a few questions for us.

1. What year did he purchase that home? This is so we can see what $75 would be based on inflation.

2. What was that home last sold for?

Yea, they’d sell to a couple where the wife is a bank teller and the husband a pest control employee.

Do you have alternative data

For one, that national average wage isn't $36/hr. It's $31/hr and the median wage is $29/hr. So I have no clue where these numbers come from.

So that's 6.1 hours work per sqft. Or 6.55 using the median salary.

That home would sell for $300k plus pretty much anywhere.

In my city, it would go for $500k easy.

What does this have to do with the housing project you insisted was right beside the White House?

1. 1979 or early 1980

2. No idea. I don't think it has sold in over a decade.
