More violent crime, addiction and mental illness/suicide for the benefit of state tax coffers and money taken from poor to be given to large corporate casino owners/non-local marketing agencies?Who wouldn’t want that in their community? I am sure that will make for a winning campaign in the next election for all incumbents.

I agree, when it comes to "development" and building in STP all bets are off. It is by far the main mechanism for corruption and shady deals in the parish.

If I owned a house in that area, I’d either sell now, or within a short time of the opening of the casino to try to get max value.

If they run their place like about half of the casinos I’ve seen here, in MS, and even in Las Vegas, they won’t reinvest in the property and the wear will start to show within a few years.

There is two opponents:

1) Those against ANY casino in their back yard.

2) Those against this specific casino company (Peninsula Pacific Entertainment) developing this version of a casino with their awful track record.

They are NOTORIOUS for over promising and under delivering what will be developed.

Just don’t get sold on a Beau Rivage Junior when it ends up being another Rosie’s Gaming Emporium (their last project in Virginia that is a glorified TGI Friday’s with a ton of slot machines).

If I was Slidell, I would have bid the project out to multiple gaming companies and the finished product would definitely be exponentially more premium and well kept than what they may get here.

Not about this at all. If it were, why would sports gambling have passed easily? It is about the trash it will attract.

St. Tammany residents don't want the parish to turn into the MS Gulf Coast with all of the white trash and degeneracy a casino brings

other than Mandeville, most of the Mississippi coast is classier than St.Tammany parish. Bay St Louis has very little crime/white trash/degeneracy and it has two casinos.

The only people really opposed to the new Slidell casino are the Mississippi Casinos, the big $$$$ Slidell subdivisions on the lake, and the stuck up Mandeville housewives that don't frequent Slidell to begin with.

Parish bi-wigs calling the casino "Economic Development" is like Nevada calling 3 new whore houses "Economic Development".

Meh... you got a better chance of hitting the jackpot at the whore house...

This is only for the Slidell location....this would not open the door up for any other casino in the parish

I don’t know definitely either what the effect will be but the video of it being discussed on the House floor is telling enough. Either it isn’t clear or it would open it up and that’s being covered up.

How is there even a market to put a casino in Slidell? The majority of gamblers in Lake Charles are from Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, as well as the rest of Texas.

And equal chances of getting the clap in a whorehouse or Slidell.

Seems like property value along Bluebonnet, Nicholson, and River Rd skyrocketed after the casino was built.

Remember when it was supposed to be a resort?

Thats not the target audience the Slidell casino is going after

Slidell is a shorter trip for anyone along I-12, I-59 and I-55 than it is to the Mississippi Coast and they dont have to frick with New Orleans bullshite

At the :53 second mark.

Rep. Edmonds: ...for riverboat gambling to be approved parish wide in St. Tammany Parish?

Rep. Mary DuBuisson, primary Author of the bill: That was my understanding and, apparently, and I am being told that is correct.

If they wanted to open up a casino in Mandeville or Madisonville they would have to go through this same process....it would come to a vote.

This vote is strictly for the Camellia Bay location....

It’s supposed to be 1 vote for the parish to allow a casino and a separate vote to move the specific license for that parish to St. Tammany

They’re combining the votes into 1. If they didn’t this would have no chance of passing. The proponents only hope is Mandeville/Madisonville folks don’t give a shite because it’s in Slidell
