The problem with the modern world is that there is nothing left to explore.

I mean except space, and money and distance make that impossible right now.
The world is now small. There are no more unknown places. No foreign lands to be discovered. No mysterious wilderness to be settled by brave and hearty people. No natural resources to be exploited, or fortunes to be made, or indigenous populations to be slaughtered. You can't just hop on a ship seeking a new life.
All there is is what we have and what we know. All we have to worry about is the next iPhone, feeding everybody, terrorism, social justice, and climate change. The earth has ceased to be a place of wonder and opportunity.

Wrong. We know more about space than we do our own oceans.

Well guess we should all help OJ look for the real killers then

There is a lot left to explore, simply not the means with which to do it-- we know nearly as much about the surface of the moon as we do some parts of our oceans. And then there's the exploration not only of the very vast, but of the incredibly small that remains to be done.
The only way someone cannot see the frontiers still out there, calling for human development, is a lack of vision to see them.

You want to know how I know you have never been in the wilderness at night?

We have actually mapped like 95% of the ocean. Problem is, most of it is just flat, and sand.
ETA:
And I am sure exploring the universe will probably involve us sending a small device to the nearest star that will map it, like Hawkins is working on now. Sending humans would be a waste until we want to settle it.

Lots of unknowns,
i.e. Lara Parkers sugar walls.

How do you know? With the way technology is evolving, it allows us to explore more accurately. You have a simplistic view of the world.

We know more about space than we do about the deep oceans

There is plenty left to explore. We know very little of what there is to know about our planet. Even if we didn't you personally don't know near all there is to know. Stop your whining and do something with yourself.

the next frontier is genetic engineering. exploring ways to improve humans and rid ourselves of disease and std's.

Pectus still hasn't explored a woman's vagina, so there is that for him.

Let's get to Mars, and there's definitely something to your point.

What will exploring the depths of the ocean benefit human civilization in the centuries to come? It's great for discovering new species but in the grand scheme of things, how does it compare to early civilizations discovering new lands and resources. Space is so vast and it will take thousands of years before we know what's up. Who created an infinite universe that keeps expanding? If we can't even settle mars at this point, how long before we travel light speed and still never travel outside our galaxy? My proof for a creator.
