Well, in First Blood Rambo couldn’t do it off the side of the cliff so.....it can’t be done.

Well it’s not because your thumb isnt at the bottom of your palm like a monkey so you can’t grab something like that

If the branch is flexible you'll still hit the ground.

If not, you'll tear up your hands and arms.

Lose-lose proposition.

This

You’re greatly overestimating your grip strength.

In order for the branch to be small enough for you to grasp and hang on to after jumping, it would be too small to support you and that momentum.

The harder part would be actually latching onto the branch, the lift up would be easier imo

Im assuming no latch on the landing, but if you did the shock of stopping yourself it would be much harder to pull yourself up.

Leap for the tree trunk and stick like a gecko.

It depends if you plan to hit the branch at chest height and wrap up, in which case you're probably looking at broken ribs. Or, if you plan to tru and grab with your arms extended, in which centrifugal force will flip you and you will land violently on your head. Pick your poison.

this is what I have envisioned. Grabbing and flipping backward and landing on my neck.

And dying.

I tried it off the deck when I was 7 or 8 with disastrous results.

If you try this take note- the ground is hard and you’re going to hit it.

This seems like something that is doable, but when I think of my body weight, it doesn't make sense that, with the downward motion, I could stop myself, and then pull myself up afterward with just my arms and back. I'm not buying it.

I once witnessed two drunk, stupid teenagers jump from a 40 foot water tower, through the canopy of a tree, and manage to stop themselves in the branches before hitting the ground. They were pretty cut up and bruised, but neither even broke a bone.

So yeah, you can survive, but why the hell would anyone want to try this?

I have no idea why this has downvotes. If there weren't posts like this on tigerdroppings, then there wouldn't be a reason to keep checking in.
