This is what most large cities are doing. Instead of Austin's retarded "You can camp anywhere in the city". You might not like this "solution" but it's a frickload better than the situation they've been dealing with in Austin.
Well we found the pussy that just takes it up the arse and does nothing.

Interstate like veins with an eastward heading,
From the southwest corner like a IV spreading,
Like a cloud of flies off the carcass of a beast,
Their host devoured now they’re flying east,
California man,
In a caravan,
He’s coming to your town,
And when he deigns to speak to you,
He’s always talking down,
He’s fled a burning building,
But he helped feed the flames,
And if you give him matches,
Your town might end up the same

Bingo!
And the reason the politicians get away with it and will continue to get away with it is evident by the responses by the regressives on the 1st page.
No accountability toward the people they elect. Just deflection and projection and disparaging the source. Never question the cult leaders. Never.
They can NEVER find fault in their policy nor their policy makers. Never an ounce of introspection or questioning of the leadership.
Every. Damn. Time

It’s 194.00 from la to Austin I would like to see 200 people stand up and buy 1 person each a ticket from la to Austin to help these Council members understand

I don’t think he is referring to the economy.
The culture has been wiped away the last 10 years. One of the few positives I see now is the comedy scene that seems to be booming. Comedians are flocking to Austin in droves. It’s bringing more old Austin type folks there.

Your mom looks good from far away too. Then you get up close to that bitch and realize how stank and nasty she is. Like Austin.

I live 40 miles about north of Austin. I’ve see what the homeless have done to it.

You are making equally hyperbolic statements about Austin as the posters are that you are ridiculing. Austin’s still a great place but there is no denying that the major problems facing west coast cities are now threatening it as well.

Thank you for the constructive feedback. I’ll make sure to apply it going forward.

So what do you do with them? Just because people voted to ban them camping doesn't mean they won't camp and you can't arrest them or the jails would become a very expensive homeless shelter that doesn't have enough space for them anyway. The homeless are not going anywhere and this proposal is trying to put them in a designated area away from downtown that has some basic facilities and can be monitored. The Prop that voters passed only banned camping in the downtown and UT campus area, so the city council is not going against voters wishes by creating camping areas outside of those in the Prop.

A lot of Austin lives in a bubble and doesnt realize this is happening to all major cities. I would probably be considered far right leaning by anyone not on TD and I got texts and calls about this for weeks. Every single time was the same thing. I hear your complaints and concerns but do you have an actual solution? What do you plan to do when they can’t enforce or move out into residential areas (lots of dry creeks that are not owned). Nothing.
I have given this much thought tonight and The best solution I can come up with as far as I can tell I am maybe one of 10 in the entire city. Take over a business park (there are several around 183/burleson/ben white) and expand the ARCH the homeless program that helps get jobs and such to 15,000 from 1,500 or whatever it is. The business park there needs dock workers to stack boxes. I have worked as a temp when I was 19-20 and home from college. Sometimes they just need people to cut up cardboard boxes and shite.
But that is the problem these days. No one wants to own a problem or try to fix it, just blame it on some other shite and kick the can down the road

I’m sick and tired of this response. This has all escalated in a 3 year period. It’s not a historical problem. Tough love. Send them on their way.

Homelessness has been a huge problem since the 1980s.

Sort of. It has been worse in other places. I feel like the homelessness problem has been amplified nation wide since 2008
Austin has always been a bum friendly city because there are so many parks with restrooms and public showers. But the what do you plan to do with them? Is a very relevant question. They aren’t going away. And I have seen that dickbag Travis Co Republicans guy on the news recently that guy is a complete dipshit that is rallying people on their hate.

While I haven't seen this guy and maybe he tries to use hate to rally people, I don't think it was hate that motivated people.
The total disregard for taxpaying citizens, junking beautiful public lands and taking a priority position on them to the exclusion of regular citizens, setting buildings on fire, threatening people and attacking/killing people were more than enough.

Oh man he’s a fricking piece of shite and I am not fond of the homeless by any means. But he offered no real solutions other than get em out!
Austin is a major city in the world and failed to address any negative consequences for their exponential growth and now doesn’t want to own being a major city. The homicide rates are up. Crime rates are up. The electrical grid is a failure. Water is contaminated (though mostly the limestone drainage). It’s a mess here and blaming the homeless camping on Caesar Chavez is a bandaid on major issues
ETA: Austin didn’t want to own being a major city in 1996 and that is part of what led to this mess. They refuse to grow until they had to
