Yeah, I’d say it looks like it’s been dead for years.

I'm sure the comment was meant to refer to the soul of Austin, what it was for decades before Californians, hipsters and liberals from all over began moving there. I have several friends who have lived there for many years. They're fairly liberal and even they hate what it has become. So, yes, "Austin" as it was known until about a decade ago, is dead. So is New Orleans for that matter.

. The Prop that voters passed only banned camping in the downtown and UT campus area,

Not correct. That only applies to sleeping or lying in public in those areas.

Camping ban is for the whole city in un-designated areas.

But camping hasn’t, which is why asking “what do you do with them” when arguing against banning camping does not make sense. What did we do with them before camping was allowed?

Well I guess the states gonna have to pass a statewide urban camping ban. Cut off resources. Like property taxes.

Having designated areas doesn’t even matter when the city had no actual plans to enforce the rule changes

All of those pictures you just posted are due to rich Republicans who live in the city or metro.

The tattooed bartenders, hipsters, and minimum wage workers make up the bulk of the liberal voters in the city.

The nice neighborhoods in the city/suburbs, big business owners, and overall wealth make up the bulk of Republican voters in the city.

We have a regional office in Austin and the building of mid to high rise is insane. We are finishing our work on 3 high rises within the next 3 months and are working through contract language on 4 more that will start before September. That is just us. The projects on the bid board for Austin are at an all time high. Student housing is nuts but so is office and multi-family.

I am there at least once a month. Aside from what is going on downtown and up and down Congress St. , there are areas on the fringe of the major developing areas where tents are everywhere under the overpasses. Looks like shite and most people I deal with hate it.

I would say the issue is that most homeless people I’ve encountered aren’t homeless because they don’t have a skill, they’re homeless because they have an alcohol/drug addiction.

Usually the addiction is secondary to a mental issue. A huge percentage of them have untreated personality disorders/schizophrenia/etc.

Then they self-medicate and become addicted to substances and it all snowballs until homelessness occurs.

It's a vicious, sad cycle, but that doesn't mean we should let them camp out on sidewalks where I walk with my family or in front of private businesses.

Really? Or are the mental issues secondary to drug addiction?

Is there any data to back this up? I'd really like to know what % of them ended up homeless due to fallout from drug addiction versus those that had serious mental issues and couldn't take care of themselves.

Those aren’t even real pictures but artists depictions. Some of the buildings in those pics haven’t even been built yet or far from completed. It also doesn’t show the record crime growth and filth that’s all happened in a 3 year period.

I was about to say, it was like a construction zone minus the campus when I was there for LSU game.
