Why are you surprised?

Liberals are totalitarian statists. They could not give a single frick what citizens think. Especially ones that disagree with them

It’s one of two bodies of water in the United States where the city has a permit to drain all their shite and runoff into it without any filtering or what not. Hell, the last couple of years people’s dogs were dying from bacteria after swimming in it.

Texas Parks and Wildlife have used it many times throughout the years to experiment with invasive species of fish figuring if they could survive there, they could survive anywhere.

What happened to giving homeless people a free bus ticket to California or hell, any destination of their choice?

Austin is the best parts of most big cities but with the shittiest people

Making it shitty

It has no soul bc all of its attributes are borrowed

Odem, Tx has more soul

Nugget, I ask myself “ would I be proud to bring my friend from Japan or Munich or St Petersburg or Zurich here” ? 25 years ago absolutely. Now, it’s just embarrassing and 3rd world-feeling . You can go to the worst slums in Thailand or Vietnam and feel 100% that the poor people there are infinitely more virtuous that the human zombies you see in our Weat Coast cities. It’s just embarrassing.

Either way, the people voted. Voted for banning homeless camps and to limit the mayor’s power. Oh well. Guess we all just wasted our time going to the poles.

I don't think you read the proposition. By the way, the bolded language gave me pause as well when I first read it.

Proposition B*: Shall an ordinance be adopted that would create a criminal offense and a penalty for sitting or lying down on a public sidewalk or sleeping outdoors in and near the Downtown area and the area around the University of Texas campus; create a criminal offense and penalty for solicitation, defined as requesting money or another thing of value, at specific hours and locations or for solicitation in a public area that is deemed aggressive in manner; create a criminal offense and penalty for camping in any public area not designated by the Parks and Recreation Department?

Im gonna need a link before i believe you. I did a quick search on my own and this is what i found.

quote:

Since Lady Bird Lake is located in the heart of our large city and is partially fed by creeks that wind through urban landscapes, it’s easy to assume that the water quality is too polluted to be safe for swimmers. However, swimming was banned on Lady Bird Lake as long ago as 1964 due to several tragic drownings caused by hazards under the water’s surface. Remnants of old, washed-away dams, deep pits from old gravel mining operations, and other types of debris litter the bottom of the reservoir, creating a dangerous underwater landscape.

quote:

In 2017, Lady Bird Lake's water quality was rated "Fair" and is considered safe for contact recreation. Since the unsafe debris remains submerged in the reservoir, swimming is likely to remain off-limits for the foreseeable future, except for permitted events

From a city government blog.

You might not like this "solution" but it's a frickload better than the situation they've been dealing with in Austin

The voters clearly don't want those numbers anywhere. The fact that their "betters" have decided to ignore those wishes is the height of arrogance.

Austin = great place to visit and spend a weekend. Terrible place to live and work. Give me Lake Travis all day.

I think it would help if people read the Prop again. See my post above.

By the way, I agree they are creating an endless problem and will be asking for more and more tax dollars as the problem grows.

I didn't think too hard about that part of the prop like you did. But of course, they left them an out.

I don't trust the city council to make any good decisions to be honest, so it wouldn't surprise me if they designated Zilker fricking park as a designated public camp site.

I wouldn't put it past them either.

You should watch Vice News' short segment about the prop that came out like a week or so ago before the vote. You want to punch just about everyone in it, especially Adler. He comes off like the biggest douche.

I’ve been to over 32 countries and 38 states. You’re just saying that to sound cool on an anonymous message board. Try again before you go ahead with another ad hominem attack on the internet.

I’ve never been to Austin or San Francisco. Been to Seattle. That was dirty enough for me, thanks. I’m good.

Anyone who uses the term “over” in sentences with specific quantities relating to travel makes me think they’re full of shite

Maybe your memory is shot

And yeah I’ll put a sock in it
