Surprise surprise Karens. Guess which had the highest infection rate? What will JBE say about this? Demand the authors change their conclusions?

quote:

Results The rates of all infection outcomes were highest in the cloth mask arm, with the rate of ILI statistically significantly higher in the cloth mask arm (relative risk (RR)=13.00, 95% CI 1.69 to 100.07) compared with the medical mask arm. Cloth masks also had significantly higher rates of ILI compared with the control arm. An analysis by mask use showed ILI (RR=6.64, 95% CI 1.45 to 28.65) and laboratory-confirmed virus (RR=1.72, 95% CI 1.01 to 2.94) were significantly higher in the cloth masks group compared with the medical masks group. Penetration of cloth masks by particles was almost 97% and medical masks 44%.

Why would this be a surprise?

Now do no masks.

And do it in a community setting, not a hospital.

TIA

Masks don’t prevent you from getting the virus in your home, through your eyes, through your ears, through your fingernail slits, through your pores, butthole, urethra, etc

Bottom line is if you aren’t coughing or sneezing, you don’t need to wear a mask. Any “study” done has had people “cough or sneeze” into a box to analyze droplet splatter. Doesn’t take into account people moving or air current. Not to mention it has been determined viral particles cannot live on objects very long.

Sheep going to sheep though.

At least add this was done in hospital specifically looking at health care workers.

Did you read the study? Or do you not know what a control arm is? Hint: it’s no mask.

You're right. They're so keep you from spitting on people if you have it.

You are incapable of understanding that the mask is intended to help the mask wearer reduce the chance of spreading it.

Absolutely incapable regardless of how many times you have had this explained to you.

This study is the first RCT of cloth masks, and the results caution against the use of cloth masks. This is an important finding to inform occupational health and safety. Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection. Further research is needed to inform the widespread use of cloth masks globally. However, as a precautionary measure, cloth masks should not be recommended for HCWs, particularly in high-risk situations, and guidelines need to be updated.

This study was looking at infection rates in health care workers in hospitals. They were gauging the use of masks as protection of the health care workers, not determining whether masks prevented an infected person from spreading the disease.

Why does it matter if we "slow the spread" or not?

Ultimately same # of ppl get this virus.

Speeding up rate at which this occurs = less deaths. Due to less depression, etc.

There was no comparison to a “no mask” group

Correct your title

That’s why we study questions that seem to be empirically obvious. In this case, wouldn’t a barrier of any kind obviously because better than no barrier? Alas, the opposite conclusion was reached, no matter how many confounders were controlled for. The cloth mask was more harmful than no mask. Yet your government overlords are ordering you to wear one. Let that sink in.

In fairness, read the update as of March 2020 -- and I'm not a mask person so I'm not arguing.

Just trying to be "fair".

Read it, there’s no “study”. It just says “oh no, we not saying wear nothing”. It’s typical CYA

Fact: I have to wear a mask at times at work. I will sneeze 10X more times with a mask on vs. without a mask on

How is it keeping it in, but not keeping it out? The mask doesn’t choose weather or not to it wants to keep air in or out
