I always get a kick out of the open-ended question: "How much do you want to spend?" They must especially lick their chops when someone gives them a monthly amount.

I just bought a used truck off Craigslist. You have to be patient and filter through a lot of bs but there is good value that can be found. I hated going to the dealership. They knew nothing about the vehicles they were selling and was overpriced by a couple thousand.

here have been models that show trying to make the process more efficient and less painful leads customers to feel they aren’t getting a good deal. The idiots feel like they have to go through this whole get angry and threaten to leave BS to get the best deal. If they don’t get that experience then they won’t buy. Meanwhile, those of us that know better are forced to take the same ride as the ignorant masses.
exactly
it's annoying as frick, especially since government has enacted laws to protect these frickers
shite boils my blood. government creates laws to protect the dealership model under the guise of "consumer protection" while doing nothing more than creating a sea of sharks who are trained to take advantage of these people even moreso

The model is designed to stress.
Needs a component where you get to kick them all in the balls if they take more than 45 minutes.

I bet car salespeople love you. You've convinced yourself you are too smart to negotiate on price.
in the rare instances where i am buying/leasing a car, i have a number and tell them if they want to haggle i'm leaving
usually i leave when they start up their bullshite
when i was younger and less sophisticated i got a somewhat bad deal on a car. it happens. but a few years ago when i was looking for a new car, that same salesman got legit butthurt when i used another salesman for my lease. the fricking balls on that guy

I don't have any data to back up what I am about to type, but I would be willing to wager that the majority of people that shop for a new or used vehicle voluntarily give this information.
A good sales person will ask a question and listen. The customer will usually vomit their thoughts, reducing any leverage they had before they walked in the dealership's doors.

Perhaps if manufacturers set the MSRP to a more reasonable level, people would do that. Sticker prices are inflated on many lots. And don't even get me started on the "market adjustment" add ons that some dealers tack on every vehicle on the lot (looking at you Lakeside Toyota)
I agree on the " Market Adjustment " BS that some dealers throw on there. That shouldn't be there. Honestly I would eliminate rebates all together and lower the actual MSRP ( to not compensate for the rebates) and just sell off of there. It would simplify things easier and make the process a little smoother.
The problem is consumers want money off, so they went from 1k rebates on a 30k price tag to 10k rebates on a 45k price tag.

Should I bother with the back bumper? The only damage is one the sensors is knocked out. No scuffs are anything.

I have been in the auto finance business for 16 years for 3 large banks you would be surprised how little or no money is made on new cars many dealers whore out the front end and try to make it up on the back end (Finance Department) also when you give the customer a good experience on the sales side they keep buying from you and also use you for service and parts which is a huge profit center. Just as a reference Team Honda the largest honda dealer in the state sells 500 a month about 50/50 new and used the avg front end profit on new is (600) and used is 2600 used car salesman make much more but it is more work.

I wouldn't, unless you can do it yourself.

Pop it back in or superglue it

Nah. I would think it would be a pretty decent truck for a high schooler. Toyotas run forever.

My standard response to that question is the monthly payment is irrelevant. That usually gets me a confused look
