you just have to take charge of the situation, don't put up with that nonsense, if a sales person starts that up I just tell him that I need to speak with someone that is authorized to make a deal, and maybe give them a time limit, been doing it a long time, I actually enjoy it

So, having a customer realize that a product's price is valid due to it filling your needs and wants is sleazy?

What % of population do you believe are stupid pussies? I'm not comparing car sales to mission work, but with the internet and resources today its never been less stressful or data restrictive to buy an automobile.

Hey fricknut, there's 90 upvotes and 3 downvotes on the OP. Ya think that might mean people agree that you are sleazebags and are longing for a better process to buy a car?

You must have tried to buy a car from Team Toyota. About a month ago I wasted a few hours there. The salesman hits me with a 7K deal. He undervalued my trade by 4k and refused to come off the new car price. I drove off, went to a competing dealership and got the same vehicle for 5500.00 less. I laugh at every phone call and email I get from these sorry people. You hit me with a 7K deal and don't blink? EFF you!

There are several.

Carvana, CarMax, etc.

Yep

Not only that, if you find the car online, you can always email them. They usually require your phone number and will call you, just ignore it. Via email, tell them what car you want and what price can get you to come in and to test drive the car. Send 1 email, don't answer any others unless they agree on that price ahead of time.

Beauty of the free market. Don't make a business transaction an emotional one. That is what separates buyers IMO

Ended up doing this for my wife's last car.

After going to a local dealership and getting the run around, the go talk to the manager, the "can't go any lower", the "we're going to lose money at that price" bull shite.

Got online, expanded the search radius, found pretty much the exact same vehicle at a dealership in Hammond, did all the back and forth online, did the financing online, went in to make sure we liked it, and were out with the keys not long after that.

It was super easy, and just an hour's drive down the road for the right price on the vehicle she wanted.

This is what I did with my truck.

Went to a local dealership, tried to negotiate (nothing combative) and they wouldn’t budge much off sticker. I went home, hit up AutoTrader, and found the exact same model at a smaller dealership an hour away with a lower sticker. Emailed them and told them I was price shopping, negotiated over email and text, and ended up getting the vehicle for roughly $5k less than the first dealership. I didn’t talk to anyone in person or over a phone call until I stepped into the dealership, and was there for only an hour or two.

The internet has changed the car buying process, but you have to be willing to drive to get the vehicle and price you want.

There are a bunch of thugs at Lakeside. If they were the only place selling cars, I would quit driving and walk.

The last vehicle I bought the guy pushed so damn hard on the extended warranty, he told me the electronics were going to break within 2 years, and it happened to him on the same vehicle. I said you are making me second guess this vehicle after all

Edit: I told him numerous times I was well aware of the risk I am taking and want to forgoe the warranty

It ain't valid when it's negotiable. You're preying on people who are either incapable of negotiating, avoid confrontation, or give in to the long process. It's why you take those bullshite 15 minute breaks to "talk to the manager" when it's a 15 second conversation. It's intentionally deceiving and built around beating the customer into taking the inflated price.

It's a disgusting business practice and trying to justify it is even worse.

Car salemen are why other industry salesmen are lumped in as sleazy.

I would have said thanks for talking me out of buying a vehicle with shitty electronics and walked out the dealership.

It's crazy how much hate a salesman catches here. Not here to defend the dealership model, but you have to ask questions to see where the customer stands. You'd be amazed how many people walk in the door with zero product knowledge, despite all the resources available. If you don't care about "what's my monthly note?" Then congrats, you're the exception. Majority of buyers have the note as their #1 deciding factor. A lot of customers have Cadillac taste but Chevrolet budget so it's important for me as a salesman to show you what's going to meet as many features you want in a vehicle along with staying in your budget. There are plenty of bad salesmen out there, but we aren't all sleazy.
