This is why it’s such a noble effort/cause to praise trade schools...for everyone else’s children.

A pipeline welder working his own rig can expect $4-7k/wk. That's hourly, per diem, and truck pay but they're only taxed on the hourly so that's where this low average is coming from. Obviously they don't work 52 weeks out of the year but $150k is not even on the high end. Now guys working plants and fab shops using company equipment are well below that, more like $25-30/hr without that hidden money. ($18/hr will get you some shitty welders in any setting.)
Lots of money passes through a pipeline welder's hands but damned few retire more than comfortable. That's from a combination of 6 month vacations between jobs, multiple ex-wives and poor money management. But they make it, whether they hold onto it or not.

Welder baw I know was crowing about how much he made so I asked him why was he always broke? He really didn't have a response. I am sure you have a few that make really good money, but it is not the majority.

Welders do get perdiem, which is typically thousands per month. This perdiem is not taxed. How would you like to not have to pay your living expenses out of your earnings.

You have to get on the pipeline to make the cash baw.
Then you are gone all the time and Jodi is banging your ole lady, you have to pay to sleep somewhere and eat out all the time so you break even.
And Jodi is banging your ole lady

Use to call welds like that "Laying Grapes".

If ya’ll are going to talk about days off then don’t be telling me their time off the same as a guy that works 9-5. If someone works 14/14 that’s not 14 days off. That’s 6 days off. A normal work schedule you get 8 of 28 days off, so you work 14 days in a row for an extra 6 days off a month. Not bad, but not as great as people make it out to be.
Also, lol at the guy talking about ‘learning to code” instead of weld. You honestly think that was a choice for any of these baws. I can promise you I know some dumbass coders that don’t make the Amazon and Google coder money that is possible.

Knew a guy back in the mid 70's that was a diver/welder and he did deep dive welding on rigs that made a shite ton of money. But that is not your average Joe welder, he was pretty specialized.

The welders that work for us make 60k-100k.

It's like any job/career. If you want to make money, you can. If you want a fabshop job and regular hours, you can do that as well.

I’ve never seen a group of people so obsessed with how much money other people make.
Who gives a shite?
Who gives a shite?

That's based of of 40hrs per week. We pay our welders $40 per hr. A welder working 6 months of turnarounds makes over 100 k, not counting per diem. Oh and he has 6 months off.
