bullet ant

I like this from Wikipedia:

The Sateré-Mawé people of Brazil use intentional bullet ant stings as part of their initiation rites to become warriors. The ants are first rendered unconscious by submerging them in a natural sedative, and then 80 of them are woven into gloves made of leaves (which resembles a large oven mitt), stingers facing inward. When the ants regain consciousness, a boy slips the gloves onto his hands. The goal of this initiation rite is to keep the glove on for a full five minutes. When finished, the boy's hand and part of his arm are temporarily paralyzed because of the ant venom, and he may shake uncontrollably for days. The only "protection" provided is a coating of charcoal on the hands, supposedly to confuse the ants and inhibit their stinging. To fully complete the initiation, however, the boys must go through the ordeal 20 times over the course of several months or even years.

Would rather have the tarantula hawk way before that.

I got stung on the hand by one of those red velvet ants early this summer. First time I have ever seen one in my yard and of course decided to mess with it and it nailed me. My hand swelled up and was throbbing for several hours. Had no idea what it was til I looked it up online and course haven’t seen one again since.

Australia has some of the most painful critters out there...

Including this bastard...

Venom is not in their bite but in a venomous fang in their back feet.

Although powerful enough to paralyse smaller animals, the venom is not lethal to humans. However, it produces excruciating pain that may be intense enough to incapacitate the victim. Swelling rapidly develops around the entry wound and gradually spreads outward. Information obtained from case studies shows that the pain develops into a long-lasting hyperalgesia that can persist for months but usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks. A clinical report from 1992 showed that the severe pain was persistent and did not respond to morphine.

Scorpion stung me on tip of index finger last year. That didn't calm down for 4 or 5 hours. It was like my finger was in a socket for hours.
i stepped on one once.

I dumped the ice bucket into the sink and sat on the counter w my foot in it.

Took hours to calm down

I learned from an early age never to let a cow ant crawl around on your hand. Was a painful lesson learned.

Confusing deadly with painful. Most of the ones that can kill you are generally avoided by people who measure the pain because , well.. They can kill you.

I feel like the puss caterpillar should be on this list

When i was in college walking to class one of these things fell out of an oak tree and landed on my neck. Well the natural thing is to swipe it off with your hand. I did that without seeing what it was until it fell on the ground. That was a big mistake. All that did was shove all the poisonous barbs into my neck. My neck was on fire for like 3 straight days.Nobody believed me when i said how much pain i was in but these little things aint no joke. definitely nothing puss about this caterpillar

Although I haven’t been bit I know of coworkers in Africa and Asia that have been hit with “acid bugs”
The Nairobi fly although it does not bite, when inadvertently smashed releases acid. I know of one guy who was in the hospital for three days and looked like someone had poured a cup of boiling water on his neck. His skin was peeling like a third degree burn.
Not sure where it falls in the pain ranking but it looked bad.
