I had a cow killer ant in my yard for several years and never saw an ant because they hunt them. Then a visitor stepped on it. #sadface

So one of these made their cocoon in an old tennis shoe. I put it on and smashed it. Brown juice on my sock. Didnt think nothing of it. Foot swelled up and itched like crazy for a week. Sucked bad.
When I was about 4, I had one of these frickers fall from an oak tree onto my shoulder and down the back of my tucked in shirt.
I have held a brutal vendetta ever since .

Pogonomyrmex (sensu stricto) workers have the most toxic venom documented in any insects, with Pogonomyrmex maricopa being the most toxic tested thus far.[3] It has an LD50 of only 0.12 mg/kg, compared to western honey bee venom, at 2.8 mg/kg, and comparable to cobra venom.
don't know if it's the most painful, but it's the most deadly, evidently

There is a bug in the roots of water hyacinths that will bite the crap out of you. Don’t know the name.

I was reminded today how I got bit up as a kid by fire ants ... that’s one reason it’s better in northeast Ohio

Aren't Cow Killer Ants actually flightless wasps?
What's the difference between an ant and a flightless wasp? I've heard about flightless wasps before, but I always thought that's just what ants are.

My dumbass brother picked up a velvet ant once and it stung him. He cried and screamed like a little bitch for an hour and whimpered for a good two hours after that. WTF did he think was going to happen? My sister and I laughed at him so hard. By the time he was five he knew better than to do that again.

There’s never been a death attributed to a brown recluse yet people hype them. FWIW
It's not the pain that's scary about them, it's the necrosis of the surrounding tissue that occurs after the bite. I know a few people who have been bitten and they have craters in their flesh at the bite site.

Scorpion stung me on tip of index finger last year. That didn't calm down for 4 or 5 hours. It was like my finger was in a socket for hours.

I feel like the puss caterpillar should be on this list.
Them pusses are bad. I've seen them but never been stung. Most people would think this is BS but I've read enough to know they truly are beasts.

The puss will sting repeatedly and the victim will become hypnotized and go back to it over and over again until it’s reduced to a lump of mush living in a trailer with child support and alimony.
