Just a subtle reminder that these ridiculous interest rates we're all talking about are brought to you courtesy of massive government money printing. Vote accordingly.

spare me

The interest rates should have never been as low as they were for as long. Then lowering rates in 2020, along with Trump's doling out cash, contributed to inflation as much as anything.

Incentivizing white-collar homeowners to move, remodel and refinance during a supply crunch on building materials was retarded.

How long is the 0% financing period? I ask because if you’re buying a $1,500 iPhone it would take you 75 months to pay it off. And that’s if it’s 0% interest for the entire six years and three months of the term.

It’s 24 months. And I was a little off. It’s 24 a month.

The 1200 dollar iphone is more like 500 or 600 after trade in which is what everyone I know does.

There is truth in this concept.

I'm not sure of the number* but conceptually this is correct.

I literally said in my previous post that an option is to wait it out. It's what I'm actually doing right now.

I know you expect to get everything you want when you want it, but that ain't reality. Your parents should've taught you that when you were 5.

ETA: Both rates and prices were much lower a few years ago. Why didn't any of you buy then? They're both high now, why can't you wait a bit longer?

So the expectations don't align with the means. One of them will need to change.

And I'm not sure if it's been discussed yet, but what do some of you who feel you are entitled to a cheaper home want to happen? What do you think will fix this for you?

I just looked at my verizon bill and it looks like my new iphone 13 was about 700. 36 $19 payments, 0 interest.

my kid would build this tomorrow and owns the land but can't do it himself due to work. Find me a contractor willing to do this in NW La. We will hire them today.

Why are you preaching? lolz.

I am an outlier for my age regarding finances, career, and homeownership. This discussion does not affect me personally. I'm a filthy rich person.

I am aware enough to realize it is a frickin struggle for a lot of folks and I'm not arrogant enough to preach the stupid messages like don't go to starbucks or watch netflix like you idiots.

I did. I've owned my home for 5 years now and have a fancy 3.6% rate.

I always enjoy the out of touch boomers vs the out of touch millennial threads. As Gen X I'm sitting pretty.

I never asked her if she’s cool with it. She probably wants a bigger house to fill with useless shite. Our house is clean, safe, adequate, and most importantly nearly paid off. Too many men and women have convinced themselves they deserve a giant show home. That it’s an investment. A home is an expense, like a car…seeking to minimize what you spend on it is the goal at least to me.

It's not ideal, but remember, you marry your home price, you only date the rate. I'm waiting for home prices to come down and saving whatever else I can.

This is not a new concept...young people just starting out attempting to gain a foothold. We struggled too, the 2000s saw some of the highest home prices in history. My starting salary was $24,000 living in Chicago, though I got some overtime. It was rough, but I still had a blast and busted my arse. It pays off.

That's awesome. I refi'd down as well, and then sold to move a year later because Chicago is a sinking ship. And now we wait.

This.

I do extremely well, and when I include my wife’s income we have no problems at all.

I am an outlier for the millennial generation.

That doesn’t mean that the situation is abysmal for my and the younger generations average individual.

You'd have to build it yourself.

Which is yet another aspect of this. It's damn near impossible to build your own home nowadays where it was commonplace a few decades ago.

It isn’t a group of people who are “just starting out”.

The millennial generation has been out of college for damn near 20 years at this point.

That is the issue.

Then you can include the younger generations who are incredibly nihilistic and you are heading for a political and social nightmare that, I’ll point out, the older generations aren’t going to die before experiencing.

This shite needs to be fixed now before it gets out of hand.
