That was A. C. Lewis' old house. Not sure who owns it now but I think they have a Lamborghini collection.

Dan Heard lives there now, he retired from John H Carter Co.

I'm sure he has other business interests as well but he definitely ran JHC for years. It's ESOP now, not sure if he owned it then or just ran it.

there are big houses on highland but no real mammoth houses.

Do you not consider a 36,000 square foot house mammoth?

Pennington

And the Bernhard home further down Highland is nearly as large.

I drive by this site on the way to work every morning, so I've watched it develop for a while now.

When this mansion was first being built, it intrigued me. I liked looking at how it was coming together, and I thought, wow... it would be awesome to have that house.

But now?

No fricking way would I live in that monstrosity. I've never seen a greater collection of McMansion features in one structure. Unnecessary gables? Check. Stuck-on turrets? Check. Fake keystones? Check. Cathedral-like wasted space? Check. Columns that don't hold up anything? Check. Drainage pond with ridiculously powerful, yet plain, fountain? Check. Busy-bee brick pattern? Check. Secondary outcroppings obscuring the primary structure? Check.

It's like Frank Lloyd Wright vomited, then his dog ate the vomit, then shite out the plans for this thing from that vomit.

Lots of nice cars...
He also has a Ferrari fxx. I looked up...$2.1 mil.

I've never seen a Lamborghini there, but he may have barn full. The 50's Jag he owns is my fave.

Once you get over 7-8k ft2 it becomes really difficult to keep the exterior elevation attractive. Too many ingredients competing with each other and it just gets too busy.

Maybe with how houses are built today but there are some architectural gems uptown and in the garden district that are 8k/sf+ that exterior features don't look like vomit. These houses were also built in tighter areas a hundred years ago which is pretty amazing.

Is it bigger than the Pennington mansion on Highland? It has an elevator in the lady's closet.

Weird bump: I drive past this guido monstrosity twice a day, every day, and the fountain is insanely powerful, like a ruptured city water main. If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction as you pass, your windows had better be rolled up or you'll get sprayed in the face with pond water.

I know of a house that was just finished and is just under 8,000 sq feet living area. It has about a 1500 sq ft pool house. The whole property cost more than $10 million to develop (land was about $2 million, pool was about $700,000).

Why would anybody spend that kind of coin on a house in Baton Rouge?

It’s only “that much coin” to guys like you. To the guys that build it, it is chump change.

How long would a 5 million square foot house take to build?

The Biltmore is 178,000 square feet for example, largest house in the US
